Why is the concept of the 'new birth' significant for Christians?

The new birth, or regeneration, is a foundational doctrine in Reformed theology and is critical for understanding how individuals come to faith. According to the teachings of Scripture, naturally, everyone is in a state of enmity against God until the Holy Spirit intervenes. This transformation is described in passages like John 3:3, where Jesus asserts that one must be born again to see the kingdom of God.
