Why is the concept of works salvation dangerous for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Works salvation undermines Christ’s sacrifice, placing human effort at the center of redemption, which can lead to spiritual ruin.

The concept of works salvation, where individuals believe their efforts can earn them favor with God, is fundamentally opposed to the gospel of grace. This belief not only robs Christ of His glory but also leads to an unhealthy spiritual condition where individuals trust in their performance rather than in the finished work of Christ on the cross. The Apostle Paul warns against this in Romans 11:6, stating that if it is by grace, then it cannot be based on works, otherwise grace would no longer be grace. The danger lies in the fact that such a belief can deceive individuals into thinking they are acceptable to God when they are actually estranged from Him, ultimately resulting in eternal separation.
