Why is the conviction of sin important in the Christian faith?

Answered in 1 source

Conviction of sin is important as it leads to repentance and prepares the heart to receive Christ by revealing our need for a Savior.

The conviction of sin is a vital part of the Holy Spirit's ministry. As taught in John 16:8, when the Holy Spirit comes, He will convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. This conviction is necessary because it reveals the true nature of our sinfulness and our inability to attain righteousness on our own. It is the Holy Spirit's work to bring us to a point of acknowledging our need for a Savior, as no one can rightly turn to Christ without first understanding their lost condition. The process of conviction is also preparatory for genuine repentance, as individuals must recognize their desperate need for grace in order to turn to Christ in faith and receive the salvation He offers.
