Why is the departure of Christ considered expedient for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Christ's departure was expedient because it allowed the Holy Spirit to come and provide comfort to all believers (John 16:7).

Jesus stated in John 16:7 that it was 'expedient' for Him to leave so that the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, could come. This was part of God's eternal covenant, ordained before creation, to send the Holy Spirit as a helper for all believers. While Jesus was physically present with the disciples, His ability to comfort them was limited to His physical location. The coming of the Holy Spirit, however, allowed for His presence to be experienced by all believers everywhere, making this departure a vital step in the redemptive plan of God. This arrangement showcases that the work of the Holy Spirit is not inferior but perfectly aligned with God’s purposes.
