Why is the doctrine of free will religion considered dangerous?

Answered in 1 source

Free will religion is dangerous because it leads people to trust in themselves rather than in God's grace and mercy.

The danger of free will religion lies in its fundamental denial of God's sovereignty and its elevation of human ability. This heresy promotes the idea that salvation can be achieved through human effort, which is contrary to the biblical teaching of grace alone (Ephesians 2:8-9). When individuals rely on their own works, they miss the significance of Christ's sacrifice and the assurance of salvation found in Him alone. As seen throughout Scripture, false prophets and teachers also perpetuate this error, making merchandise of souls and leading many astray, which results in eternal destruction (2 Peter 2:1-3).
