Why is the doctrine of imputed righteousness critical?

The doctrine of imputed righteousness provides the foundation for a believer's justification before God. According to historic Reformed theology, when Christ's righteousness is imputed to us, it means that His perfect obedience to the law is credited to our account. This transforms our standing before God from guilty to righteous, not based on our works but solely through faith in Jesus' completed work on the cross.
