Why is the general call important in evangelism?

Answered in 1 source

The general call extends the invitation of the gospel to all, emphasizing God's desire for all to hear the message of salvation.

The general call is crucial in evangelism as it represents God's command to preach the gospel to all mankind, inviting everyone to come to Christ. This is illustrated in Matthew 22, where the king sends servants to invite both the good and the bad to the wedding feast. Although not everyone will respond positively, the command to invite is a reflection of God's grace and mercy. It acknowledges that while many are called, only the elect will ultimately respond, but the call must go out to all without partiality. This aligns with the sovereign grace teaching that God has chosen a people for Himself but uses the means of preaching to ensure they hear His truth.
