Why is the gospel offensive to some people?

Answered in 4 sources

The gospel is offensive because it challenges human pride by declaring that salvation is solely dependent on God's grace.

Many find the gospel offensive as it confronts the inherent pride and self-righteousness within humanity. The message that we can do nothing to earn salvation and must fully rely on Christ diminishes personal merit and accomplishments. The cross itself, as a symbol of sacrificial love and the wrath of God against sin, serves as a reminder that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Thus, the gospel exposes the human condition and the need for a Savior, which many resist due to their desire for self-sufficiency.
