Why is the Gospel simple yet often rejected?

Answered in 1 source

The Gospel's simplicity invites faith, but often proud hearts reject the ease of just believing.

While the Gospel message encapsulates the profound truth that salvation is obtained simply through faith in Christ, many find it challenging to accept. This rejection stems from human pride, which desires to contribute something to salvation rather than accepting it as a free gift. The sermon illustrates this concept through the example of Naaman, who balked at the simple command to wash in the Jordan seven times because his pride led him to expect a grander form of healing. Similar to Naaman, many today resist the Gospel’s simplicity because they prefer a more complex approach that relies on human achievement rather than total dependence on God’s grace. The incredulity faced by believers is often rooted in this unwillingness to accept the simplicity of faith required by God.
