Why is the Holy Spirit important for prayer?

Answered in 1 source

The Holy Spirit empowers and guides our prayers, helping us in our weaknesses.

The Holy Spirit's role in prayer is fundamental, as He aids us in our infirmities and supports us in our prayer life. In Romans 8:26, we see that when we do not know what to pray for, the Holy Spirit intercedes for us with groanings that cannot be uttered. This illustrates that our access to God in prayer isn't rooted in our own merits but in the work of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit also helps to affirm our relationship with God, reminding us that He is our Father and that we can approach Him confidently. Because of the Spirit's presence, prayer transforms from mere duty to authentic communion with God.
