Why is the law important in understanding the gospel?

Answered in 1 source

The law reveals human sinfulness, showing the need for redemption through the gospel.

The law serves to expose our sin, demonstrating our inability to fulfill its demands, which points to the necessity of the gospel. According to Romans 3:20, by the law comes the knowledge of sin. It is not the law itself that is flawed but our inability to keep it due to our sinful nature. The perfect gospel then provides what the law cannot—rest and salvation for those who are burdened by their sin. The law's importance lies in its role in leading us to Christ, as it reveals our need for grace and the perfect righteousness found in Him.
