Why is the light of Christ essential for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

The light of Christ is essential because it is the source of spiritual understanding and guidance, necessary for faith and life.

The light of Christ is foundational to the Christian faith as it provides illumination that leads believers out of darkness into spiritual understanding (Colossians 1:12). This enlightenment is an act of God, as 2 Corinthians 4:6 declares that God, in His sovereignty, has shined light into our hearts, giving us the knowledge of His glory. Without this light, Christians would struggle to grasp the truths of redemption and grace, relying instead on their own works, which ultimately lead to spiritual emptiness. The importance of this light is also seen in Ephesians 1:18, where Paul prays that the eyes of our understanding be enlightened to know the hope of God's calling.
