Why is the message of Christ central to the gospel?

Answered in 1 source

The message of Christ is central to the gospel because He is the fulfillment of God's plan of salvation for humanity.

Christ's life, death, and resurrection are the foundation upon which the gospel rests. In the story of Elisha, the casting of the tree into the water symbolizes Christ bearing our sins on the cross. The belief that all scripture points to Christ underscores the centrality of His redemptive work. As stated inLuke 24:27 and 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, everything in the gospel narrative flows from and leads to the person of Jesus, who is the ultimate revelation of God’s love and grace to a lost world.
