Why is the metaphor of rain used for the Word of God?
Answered in 1 source
The metaphor of rain illustrates the nourishing and life-giving properties of the Word of God.
The metaphor of rain serves to illustrate the nourishing and transformative qualities of the Word of God. Like rain, which can fall in varying intensities and over differing intervals, the Word of God has the capacity to reach individuals at their specific needs. In the same way that rain makes the earth soft and receptive, the Word penetrates hard hearts, making them tender and capable of spiritual growth (see metaphor IX discussed in the text). Furthermore, just as rain is distributed variably, reflecting the sovereign will of God, the distribution of His Word aligns similarly, being communicated based upon His divine plan and purpose for individuals and communities. This metaphor effectively emphasizes how the Word acts as both a comforter and a cultivator of souls.
