Why is the Old Covenant important to understand?

Answered in 1 source

Understanding the Old Covenant highlights the need for Christ's ultimate sacrifice.

The Old Covenant is important because it serves as a shadow of the good things to come, illustrating our inability to achieve righteousness through works, as stated in Hebrews 10:1-4. The continuous sacrifices under the law were reminders of sin and could never truly atone for it. By recognizing the limitations of the Old Covenant, we are pointed to the sufficiency of Christ, our true priest, who offered Himself for our sins once and for all. This understanding enriches our appreciation of the grace evident in the New Covenant established through Christ's blood.
