Why is the priestly role significant in the blessings of the tribes?

Answered in 1 source

The priestly role is significant as it foreshadows Jesus Christ, our great High Priest, who mediates between God and man.

The blessings pronounced by Moses on the tribe of Levi highlight the importance of the priestly function within Israel. Moses speaks of the Urim and Thummim, which were used to seek God's guidance, underscoring the seriousness of the Levitical calling. Aaron, the first high priest, serves as a type of the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the ultimate mediator for His people. Just as the Levitical priests offered sacrifices for the people's sins, Christ offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice, fulfilling and surpassing the old covenant's requirements. This dynamic enriches our understanding of how God orchestrates the priestly ministry to point us towards the New Covenant established in Christ.
