Why is the role of the Holy Spirit important in salvation?

Answered in 7 sources

The Holy Spirit's role is crucial as He illuminates the truth of the gospel and brings about regeneration in the hearts of believers.

The Holy Spirit is essential to salvation as He actively works to draw sinners to Christ. In the parable of the lost coin, the woman lights a candle, which symbolizes the illuminating work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the lost (Luke 15:8-10). Without the Holy Spirit, individuals remain in spiritual darkness, unable to see their need for Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6 affirms that God shines light into our hearts to give us the knowledge of His glory. Through this effectual calling, the Holy Spirit regenerates the heart of the sinner, allowing them to understand and believe in the gospel, ultimately leading to their salvation. Therefore, the Holy Spirit plays an indispensable role in bringing about faith and repentance.
