Why is the significance of Christ's swaddling clothes?

Answered in 1 source

Swaddling clothes symbolize Christ's humility and His role in providing righteousness for His people.

The swaddling clothes in which Christ was wrapped at birth carry deep theological significance. They illustrate not only His humility, being born in a stable and laid in a manger, but also foreshadow His ministry of covering believers with righteousness. In Ezekiel 16, we find the imagery of swaddling representing care and a covering of purity. This reflects the gospel, wherein Christ wraps His people in His righteousness, contrasting our state of neediness and pollution without Him. Thus, His swaddling symbolizes the provision of God, showing that Christ came to be the answer to our spiritual nakedness. The swaddling clothes thus serve to point to the entirety of His redemptive work—beginning at His birth and culminating in His sacrificial death.
