Why is the suffering of Jesus significant?

The suffering of Jesus is central to the Christian faith, as articulated in Hebrews 2:9-10, where it says He was crowned with glory and honor after suffering death. This suffering was necessary for Him to fulfill His role as our merciful high priest and to make atonement for our sins.
