Why is the truth important in the armor of God?

The truth is paramount as the first piece of the armor of God, often referred to as the belt of truth. Without embracing the truth, the integrity of one's entire spiritual life falters. According to John 17:17, Jesus states, 'Thy word is truth,' which signifies that salvation and righteousness hinge upon understanding and adhering to this truth. It is through the truth of the gospel that believers are anchored and able to advance in their faith. Without this foundation, the other aspects of the armor will lack effectiveness, as error can never lead one to the true protection found in Christ.
