Why is understanding Christ important for spiritual insight?

Understanding who Christ is and the work that He accomplished is vital for gaining spiritual insight. In 1 John 4:2, we are taught to test the spirits to see if they confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh, indicating that true spiritual understanding acknowledges Christ's divine nature and redemptive work. Without this understanding, one can easily fall prey to false teachings and would fail to discern the true nature of spiritual matters.
