Why is understanding God's grace significant for Christians?

God's grace is the unmerited favor shown to us, which is foundational to a proper understanding of our salvation. It teaches that our righteousness comes solely through faith in Christ, not through our own works (2 Corinthians 5:21). Recognizing that we are entirely dependent on God's grace helps us to see that all of our efforts in righteousness are as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6) without His grace. This truth humbles us and encourages a life of thankfulness and obedience because we understand that our standing before God is solely by His grace and not our own merit.
