Why is understanding important in worship?

Answered in 1 source

Understanding is essential in worship because true worship involves knowing what one is saying and believing.

Worship without understanding is unproductive and ineffective. In 1 Corinthians 14:16-17, Paul points out that if a worshiper does not understand what is being said, they cannot participate meaningfully or say 'Amen' to prayers or blessings. Hence, understanding enables believers to engage in worship that is sincere and directed toward God. Paul highlights that true worship is born from a heart that is enlightened by the Holy Spirit and rooted in the revelation of Jesus Christ, leading to genuine communion with God.
