Why is understanding our obstacles to salvation important?

Answered in 1 source

Understanding our obstacles is crucial because only by identifying them can we truly pursue salvation (Matthew 19:23-24).

In the account of the rich young ruler, Jesus highlights that there are significant obstacles that hinder individuals from entering the kingdom of God. The disciples exclaim, 'Who then can be saved?' (Matthew 19:25) upon realizing that wealth can be a significant barrier. Acknowledging these obstacles is essential for recognizing our need for divine intervention and grace. Without confronting the things that compete with Christ in our hearts, such as possessions, pride, or self-sufficiency, we may remain unprepared for true conversion and salvation. It is only by God's grace that these barriers can be crushed, leading to a genuine pursuit for Christ above all else.
