Why is understanding our sinful state important for Christians?

Answered in 5 sources

Understanding our sinful state allows Christians to appreciate the depth of God's grace and the richness of salvation.

Recognizing our sinful state is crucial for appreciating the grace that God has extended to us. Ezekiel 16 illustrates the contrast between Israel's despicable beginnings and God's glorious intervention. By understanding we are born in sin, with no ability to save ourselves, we realize the magnitude of God's love when He chooses to save us. This recognition deepens our repentance, increases our gratitude, and motivates us to live in accordance with the high calling we have received in Christ. Without recognizing our desperate condition, we diminish the grace of God and the work of Christ on our behalf.
