Why is understanding our state as spiritually dead important for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Recognizing our spiritual deadness enables us to grasp the necessity of Christ's saving work.

Understanding our state as spiritually dead is crucial for Christians as it highlights the dire condition from which we have been redeemed. Ephesians 2:1-5 illustrates that we were dead in our transgressions, unable to save ourselves or respond to God without His initiating grace. This realization drives home the point that salvation is entirely an act of God’s grace. By knowing that we are powerless to bring ourselves to life, we can fully appreciate the necessity of Christ who was sent to do what we could never accomplish: to live a perfect life, die our death, and be raised to secure our eternal life. The regeneration of the Holy Spirit is vital for us to realize our need for a Savior and rejoice in the grace given to us through Christ.
