Why is understanding our weakness important for Christians in regards to sanctification?

Answered in 1 source

Recognizing our weakness is essential because true sanctification cannot be achieved through our own strength, but only in reliance on Christ.

A key aspect of sanctification is the acknowledgment of our own insufficiency. The believer's struggle against sin is often met with failure when attempted in personal strength. As Winslow notes, we must learn to rely on Christ and His might, embracing our need for the Holy Spirit’s power. This understanding is crucial in the fight against sin; without it, we might fall prey to the deception of attempting to mortify sin through our efforts, which only leads to disappointment and spiritual defeat. Only by recognizing our weaknesses can we truly access the strength available in Christ.
