Why is understanding the character of God important in the gospel?

Answered in 1 source

Understanding God's character is essential as the gospel reveals His sovereignty, justice, and love through the cross of Christ.

The gospel is fundamentally a declaration of God's true character as revealed through Jesus Christ and His atoning work. The attributes of God, such as His sovereignty and justice, are fully displayed in the cross. Preaching the gospel must encompass not only God's love but also His holiness and justice, showing that humanity's wickedness is the backdrop against which His grace shines. If one fails to proclaim these truths, they do not accurately preach the gospel, which ultimately hinges upon the full counsel of God's character and the work of Christ.
