Why is understanding the deity of Christ important for Christians?

Answered in 6 sources

Understanding the deity of Christ is crucial because it affirms the efficacy of His redemptive work and His authority in salvation.

The understanding of Christ's deity underpins the entire message of the Gospel. In Colossians 2:9, we read, 'For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily,' which establishes that Christ's divine nature is integral to our salvation. His being fully God means that His sacrificial offering holds infinite value as He bore our sins and conquered death. If Christ were merely a man, His death would not suffice for the atonement of sin. Moreover, knowing Christ as God assures believers of His sovereign power and control over their lives. It builds trust in His promises and the assurance of salvation, as even the greatest challenges cannot overcome Him.
