Why is understanding the law and sin important for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Understanding the law and sin is crucial for recognizing our need for repentance and the necessity of grace.

For Christians, understanding the relationship between the law and sin is vital as it reveals the severity of our sinful nature and our complete inability to meet God's perfect standard by our own efforts. Romans 3:20 states that by the law is the knowledge of sin, helping us understand that our sinfulness requires a savior. Recognizing this enables us to fully appreciate the grace that is found in Jesus Christ. The law serves to bring us to a point of repentance, acknowledging our dependence on Christ’s sacrifice for salvation and the subsequent empowerment to live according to His will, as expressed in Jeremiah 31:33.
