Why is understanding the nature of our enemies important for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Christians must understand their enemies to effectively engage in spiritual warfare and rely on God's strength rather than their own (Ephesians 6:12).

Recognizing the nature of our enemies is crucial in spiritual warfare as it helps Christians to understand that their battle is not merely against external forces, such as the world or other individuals, but also internal struggles rooted in sin and the flesh. As Paul mentions in 2 Corinthians 10, we contend with strongholds that exist both outside and within ourselves. This understanding promotes a reliance on God’s strength and the tools He has equipped us with, namely prayer, scripture, and the gospel. When Christians are aware of the true nature of their enemies, they can more effectively use the mighty weapons of God to break down lies and obstacles that prevent faith, helping them stand firmly in the truth of the gospel.
