Why is understanding the righteousness of Christ important for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Understanding Christ's righteousness is essential, as it is the only means for justification and entrance into the kingdom of heaven.

The righteousness of Christ is vital for Christians because it is the means by which they are justified before God. As Matthew 5:20 indicates, 'except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.' This sets forth the requirement of a perfect righteousness, which no human efforts can produce. Therefore, it is through the imputed righteousness of Christ—achieved by His obedience and fulfillment of the law—that believers are accepted by God and inherit eternal life. This understanding assures believers that their standing before God is based not on their merit, but on Christ's finished work.
