Why is worship not just about the place or rituals?

Answered in 1 source

Worship is not confined to a place or rituals because God is spirit and seeks heartfelt worship from His followers.

Jesus, when speaking to the Samaritan woman, made it clear that true worship is not about specific locations or elaborate rituals as traditionally understood. As John 4:21-24 teaches, God desires a form of worship that is rooted in the inner life of believers—a worship that reflects a genuine understanding and relationship with Him. This perspective shifts the focus away from physical altars and ceremonies, emphasizing that worship is fundamentally about one's spirit engaging with God. In Isaiah 66:1, God proclaims that He cannot be limited by human constructs or physical spaces, calling instead for worship that arises from a humble and contrite heart, one that trembles at His word.
