Why is zeal without knowledge dangerous?

Answered in 1 source

Zeal without knowledge can lead to devastating consequences, including spiritual harm and false beliefs.

In Romans 10:2, Paul speaks of the Israelites, who were 'zealous for God, but not according to knowledge.' This tells us that while having zeal, if it is not grounded in the truth of God's Word and the knowledge of Christ, it can result in serious missteps. The danger lies in the fact that such zeal can cause individuals to follow false paths, leading them away from the righteousness that comes through faith in Jesus. Just like a surgeon lacking knowledge can harm a patient despite their vigor, religious zeal without understanding can lead to spiritual ruin. It's crucial to have both zeal and a deep understanding of who Christ is and what He has accomplished for salvation.
