Why might suffering be necessary for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Suffering is necessary to test and strengthen the faith of believers, proving their genuine commitment to Christ.

Suffering is a vital aspect of the Christian journey as it serves a purpose in the life of a believer, primarily to test and refine faith. As affirmed in 1 Peter 1:7, trials, although difficult, are more precious than gold as they reveal the authenticity of one’s faith, which will ultimately result in praise and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ. The acts of suffering encourage reliance on God, fostering spiritual maturity and resilience, as well as bringing believers closer to the heart of God. This process illustrates that God is actively involved in the lives of His people, shaping them and preparing them for their eternal inheritance. Therefore, while suffering may appear burdensome, it is ultimately under God's sovereign control for the believer’s good and His glory.
