Why must believers have the righteousness of Christ?

Answered in 1 source

Believers need the righteousness of Christ to be accepted by God, as no one can stand before Him without perfect righteousness.

In Scripture, particularly in Hebrews 12:14, it is stated that without holiness, no one can see the Lord. This emphasizes the necessity of having perfect righteousness to stand before a holy God. Our own attempts at righteousness fall short; as Isaiah puts it, our good works are but 'filthy rags.' Therefore, it is essential that believers be endowed with the perfect righteousness of Christ, which He accomplished through His life and death on our behalf. This righteousness is imputed to us, making us accepted as children of God in Christ, the only acceptable offering to God.
