Why must Christ have died?

Answered in 1 source

Christ's death was necessary to fulfill God's justice and provide satisfaction for sin.

The necessity of Christ's death lies in God's unyielding justice; the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). To declare God just and to maintain righteousness, Jesus, who knew no sin, had to bear the sins of His people. This act was not only for the benefit of humanity but primarily to uphold God's glory. By bearing the sins of His people, Christ fulfilled the demand of justice, allowing believers to be justified and reconciled to God, as underscored in 2 Corinthians 5:21; He became sin for us that we might receive His righteousness.
