Why must Jesus increase and we decrease?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus must increase to fulfill His role as our Savior, while we decrease to reflect the truth of the gospel (John 3:30).

In John 3:30, John the Baptist states, 'He must increase, but I must decrease,' illustrating the necessary dynamic of the believer's life. As Christ is magnified in our hearts and lives, our own pride and self-reliance should diminish. This principle is crucial in understanding the role of God's servants; we are to point others to Christ rather than draw attention to ourselves. By exalting Christ as the center of our faith, we facilitate genuine worship and reliance on Him for salvation, recognizing that our worth is derived from Him rather than our own merits.
