Why should Christians abstain from sinful desires?

Answered in 1 source

Christians are called to abstain from sinful desires to honor God and live according to their new identity in Christ.

In 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5, Paul urges believers to abstain from sexual immorality and the “lusts of concupiscence” that enslave those who do not know God. This abstention speaks to the believer’s identity as sanctified and set apart for holiness. Engaging in sin not only tarnishes one's testimony but also quells the work of the Holy Spirit within us. By resisting these desires, we affirm our calling to live as holy individuals who reflect Christ's character and love for one another.
