Why should Christians avoid self-justification?

Answered in 1 source

Self-justification leads to rejection of Christ and fails to attain God's righteousness.

Self-justification undermines the core of the Gospel by placing trust in human works rather than Christ's finished work. God’s Word warns that attempts to achieve righteousness through personal merit result in rejection (Isaiah 66:17). In contrast, true righteousness is found solely in Christ, as He embodies holiness and fulfills the law on behalf of His people. Therefore, understanding grace as unmerited favor received through faith in Christ redirects believers from reliance on works to confident assurance in His redemptive power.
