Why should Christians expect opposition?

Answered in 1 source

Christians should expect opposition because Jesus warned us that His followers would face hostility and persecution for His name's sake.

Jesus explicitly warned His followers about the nature of their mission and the opposition they would face. In Matthew 10:22, He states, "And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake," indicating that enmity against believers stems from their identification with Him. This opposition may come in various forms, from slander to physical persecution, but it serves to reveal the spiritual conflict that exists due to the gospel message. Believers are often perceived as a threat to the status quo, as the truths they proclaim challenge the prevailing attitudes and beliefs of an unregenerate world. Therefore, realizing that we are not above our Master, as stated in Matthew 10:24-25, helps us understand that suffering is part of following Christ faithfully.
