Why should Christians fear God?

Answered in 2 sources

The fear of God is vital as it is the beginning of wisdom and leads to a deeper understanding of His nature and authority (Proverbs 1:7).

The fear of God is a central theme in scriptural wisdom literature, characterized as the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 1:7). This reverential fear encompasses awe and respect for God’s holiness, justice, and power. It reminds Christians of the seriousness of sin and the gravity of His judgment against it, as seen in Psalm 90, where the psalmist reflects on God's anger and our accountability. The fear of God serves both as a deterrent to sin and a compelling reason to seek His grace and mercy through Christ. By understanding the implications of divine judgment, believers are motivated to live in accordance with God's will, thus applying their hearts to wisdom and recognizing their need for redemption through Jesus, who embodies God’s wisdom and love.
