Why should Christians fear God instead of fearing man?

Answered in 1 source

Christians should fear God because He has the power to condemn the soul, while men can only harm the body.

The reasoning behind fearing God rather than man is rooted in understanding God's ultimate authority and power. In Matthew 10:28, Jesus contrasts the frailty of human authority with the everlasting power of God. While humans can inflict physical harm, they have no control over the eternal fate of our souls. Embracing the fear of God helps Christians to maintain a correct perspective on life’s circumstances and challenges. This fear leads to a trust in God’s sovereignty, acknowledging that He will ultimately judge both the living and the dead. It also empowers believers to share their faith without fear of opposition from others, knowing that God values them infinitely more than sparrows.
