Why should we not trust in our works for salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Trusting in our works undermines the glory of Christ's sacrifice and the grace of God in salvation.

Hosea 14 emphasizes that God's people must renounce works as a means of righteousness, stating that they will no longer say to 'the work of our hands, Ye are our gods.' This realization is crucial for salvation: it recognizes that our efforts cannot secure God’s favor or salvation. Instead, all believers are called to rely wholly on Christ’s atoning work and His righteousness, as any attempt to combine faith with works diminishes the essence of grace that upholds the entire Gospel message.
