Let's take our Bibles and turn
with me to the book of Hebrews chapter 10. Hebrews chapter 10. I'd like for us to consider verses
5 through 10 tonight. Let's read those verses and then
ask our Lord's blessing. Hebrews chapter 10. Verse 5,
Wherefore, when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice
and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared
me. In burnt offerings and sacrifices
for sin thou hast had no pleasure. Then said I, Lo, I come. In the volume of the book it
is written of me. to do thy will, O God. Above,
when he saith, Sacrifice and offering, and burnt offerings,
and offering for sin, thou wouldst not, neither hadst pleasure therein
which are offered by the law. Then he said, Lo, I come to do
thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that
he may establish the second, by the which will we are sanctified
through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Let's pray together. Our Father, as we come before
You this evening, we are so thankful that You have allowed us the
privilege to be able, by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ,
to enter with liberty, into heaven itself, into your
very presence and talk to you as your sons, sons of God, heirs
of God and joint heirs with Christ. Lord, how merciful you've been
to us. How we thank you for the mercies
of this day. And I ask you, Lord, would you
bless the service tonight. Would you bless it to the honor
of the Lord Jesus Christ. Bless it to the comfort and peace
of your people. Lord, I pray tonight, Maggie,
I pray you'd have mercy. Pray for Kay and Stephanie. Lord,
I pray for Darvin and Kathy. I pray you'd have mercy. I pray
for those folks there in Taylor. Lord, I pray that Christ be lifted
up. For it's in His name we pray,
Amen. Last time we looked in the book
of Hebrews, I started in verse 1 of chapter 10. Last time it
was talking about the law having a shadow of good things to come
and not the very image of the things. can never with those
sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make
the comers thereunto perfect. The sacrifices in the Old Testament,
the scripture sets forth that what they were were actually
shadows, types, pictures. And where a shadow, this is what
we looked at last time, where a shadow is produced, there's
always got to be substance to produce that shadow. And the
very substance that was producing the shadow of the law, the sacrifices,
the blood of bulls and goats, that which was producing that,
The substance behind that was actually the coming of the Lord
Jesus Christ into this world to redeem all that the Father
had given Him in electing grace. That substance of which this
law, these sacrifices were a shadow, that substance was seen and beheld
by the Father before the foundation of the world. The Father has
always seen the blood. He has always seen the sacrifice. The Lamb slain from the foundation
of the world. Now this substance, this coming
into this world of which the sacrifices were a picture, were
a type, the Old Testament saints look forward to that. by faith. They knew. The Lord said concerning
Abraham, John 8, verse 56, Your father Abraham rejoiced to see
My day and he saw it and was glad. We look back now and we
read in the New Testament the actual writing, the actual setting
forth of that which actually took place. And right now we
look back. And we read and by faith believe
our blessed Savior came into this world made of a woman, made
under the law, walked this earth in absolute obedience. We know
by the revelation of the Spirit of God to our hearts Christ Jesus
the Lord was on this earth. The Word was actually made flesh. and dwelt among us, the Scripture
says. And we beheld, John says, His
glory. The glory is of the only begotten
of the Father, full of grace and truth. And now we realize
that the actual substance of which the law and the sacrifices
were pictures and types has actually taken place. Oh, these dear saints
of God that look forward to the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jacob, as he prophesied, said concerning the coming of the
Lord Jesus Christ. This is in Genesis now. Genesis
49, 10. The scepter shall not depart
from Judah nor a lawgiver from between his feet until Shiloh
come and unto him shall the gathering of the people be. So the message
that was preached in shadow by the law was this. He's coming. The Savior's coming. The Lord
Jesus Christ is going to come into this world, redeem His people.
So here we are in verse 5, "...wherefore, when He cometh into the world,
He saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldst not, but a body
hast thou prepared Me." Now that was a quote out of Psalm 40 that
was prophesied. that the Lord Jesus Christ come
into this world. And that very Scripture fulfilled
in Him. Now, since it was impossible
for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins, His coming
into this world set forth in the actual, visible, physical
coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Him coming into this world set
forth that sacrifice and offerings of the blood of animals was not
the Father's desire for the putting away of the sins of His people. Christ actually coming into this
world proved that sin could never be put away by the sacrifice
of an animal. Therefore, a body, the Scripture
says, has thou prepared Me. in the which nature we possess,
a body that actually was the nature, though he himself never
sinned." Now, you know that. He was made flesh. He was made the very nature that
had sinned against God. Though he knew no sin, a body
was prepared him. Flesh. actual flesh, just like
we have, looked just like this. Looked just like this. There
was nothing about Him that stood out when people saw Him. There
was nothing about Him that outwardly appeared to be different. He
looked just like, generally speaking, He looked just like everybody
else. John the Baptist was the one
under the inspiration of the Spirit of God that pointed him
out. Behold, the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the
world. John the Baptist saw Him. The Spirit of God revealed that
to John the Baptist. Others said about Him. That's
Mary and Joseph's boy, isn't it? We know Him. How is it that
He said? I am the bread that cometh down
from heaven. We know Him. A body hath Thou
prepared me. A body that though outwardly
looked just like ours, it knew no sin. He aged. He hurt. He was in all points
tempted just like we are. yet without sin. The blood of
Adam's fall was not in his veins. Conceived by the Holy Ghost,
a body hast thou prepared me." A body that was sufficient to
satisfy God's demand for obedience. What Brother Scott used to say.
How many times do we hear him say this? He was as much man
as not God. And God is not man. Totally man. Totally God. Not half and half. Totally God-man. Mediator. Able to touch both
parties with absolute perfection. A body has thou prepared me. A body that was able to obey
God. and Almighty God look upon him
and say, that's my beloved son. I'm well pleased in him. A man
satisfied God. A man. But not just any man. The man, Christ Jesus, the Son
of Man. A body hath thou prepared me
that was able to walk before God's law in absolute perfection,
and God Almighty looked upon him as our representative accepted
in him in a body that knew no sin, but also was made sin. The Scripture sets forth that
God's people might justly, justly be accepted in him. That man
stood as the representative and the substitute of all God's elect. A body hast Thou prepared me. Then he said in verse 6, in burnt
offerings and sacrifices for sin, Thou hast had no pleasure. Almighty God had no pleasure
in the blood of the sacrifices Bulls and goats compared to obedience. Had no pleasure, no satisfaction
in that blood putting away sin. The Lord did not delight in burnt
offerings and sacrifices in the putting away of sins because
those animals did not shed their blood willingly. There had to
be obedience. They were a picture. They were
a type. The Scripture says then in verse
7, it said, I, Lo, I come, in the volume of the book, it's
written of Me, to do Thy will, O God. There had to be obedience. God Almighty must be obeyed. Obedience. Obedience. By one man's disobedience, many
were made sinners. By one man's obedience, shall
many be made righteous. The Lord Jesus Christ, who spoke
the words in Psalm 40, quoted by the Apostle right here, then,
then, that's what He said, burnt offerings, verse 6, sacrifices
for sin, Thou hast had no pleasure then." Knowing that, knowing
that there was no pleasure, no satisfaction in blood of bulls
and animals putting away the sins of God's people, then the
Lord Jesus Christ said, I come. I come. The marvel that Almighty
God coming to this world I thought on that today. And as I was thinking
on that, I thought, you know, here's what is so sad to me about
me. I read that. I consider that. Then said I, lo, I come. In the
volume of the book, everything that was written concerning Him,
His coming, It's written in the volume of the book, the Holy
Scriptures, written about Him. I come to do one thing, to do
Thy will, O God, in the redemption of God's people, in the putting
away of the sins of God's elect. God Almighty, you know this. We've talked about this before.
I come to do Thy will. God Almighty loved the order
of man. Here's mankind. The only creature
ever created by God Almighty that God Himself was pleased
to redeem from sin. Now, angels are created. Here's a man. a woman or man able, able by
the grace of God to have by the power and good pleasure of God,
the knowledge of God imparted to them. And to have God Almighty
actually reside within them. And to have God Almighty love
that creature, that arrangement, the order of man, and that God
Himself would be pleased to become a man and to come into this world
to do the will of God to redeem God's elect. I thought on that
today and I thought, how is it that I can hear this blessed
truth? Lord, forgive me. for thinking
so lightly of you. God, then said I, I come to do
Thy will. Verse 8, above when He saith,
that is concerning what had just previously been stated, that
is that the Lord had no pleasure and was satisfied. Let me say
this in the offerings and sacrifices of animals to put away sin. Above when He saith, Sacrifice
and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin, thou wouldst
not. Neither hath pleasure therein which are offered by the law. He said, again in verse 9, Lo,
I come to do thy will, O God. I read that and I thought, you
know, isn't it merciful of God that He would tell us something
over and over and over. Why do you think He said that
three different times in this passage of Scripture? Why? Why? Because we're prone to forget
how mercifully kind, compassionate He is that He would tell His
people once again. I've had this numerous times. Believe me, this wasn't new.
But the thing that I've noticed about people that have no heart
for the gospel, you know what they think about gospel preachers?
You guys only have one subject, don't you? Is there anything
else? You know, like somebody told
Clay Curtis, you need to get some more material. Can you imagine? Clay said, Marvin, I'm not a
comedian. I thought that was a good answer.
I need some more material. What else does God's people want
to hear? Tell me one more time. Tell me
one more time, and by the grace of God, maybe God will give me
a little bit more light on it. Tell me one more time, and maybe
the Spirit of God might be pleased to truly bless this to my heart
this time. that I might truly hear, Lord,
teach me this again. Lo, I come to do Thy will, O
God, because I know this nobody else
ever has. Nobody else has ever satisfied
God. The Lord Jesus Christ states
over Over, I come. It's written in the volume of
the book. I come to do Thy will, O God.
He taketh away the first that He may establish the second.
In His coming, by actually coming into this world to do the will
of God, this is what He did. He took away the first. He shows
by His coming. that the first covenant, the
shedding of the blood of bulls and goats, sacrifices and pictures
and tithes and shadows, He shows that there's no value in that,
in removing sin. There's no redemption in that.
They offered Him over and over and over. Doesn't it comfort
your heart? that you can know that He shed
His blood one time. One time. He shed that blood
and He cried from the cross with a loud voice. It's finished. It's finished. And the veil of
the temple, that veil that separated. Oh, the separation between man
and God. Almighty God set forth even in
the pictures and the types, your sins have separated between Me
and you. And when the Lord Jesus Christ
finished the work of redemption, took away the first, took away,
established the second. When He cried, It's finished,
starting from the top, that veil that only the High Priest one
time a year, one day a year, the Day of Atonement. One day
and not without blood. The Lord Jesus Christ actually
by the shedding of His own blood entered into the holiest of all.
Of what that holy of holies pictured, entering into heaven itself.
He came in, the Lord Jesus did, with His own blood. In picture
and type, The high priest would come in one day a year and sprinkle
the blood of animals. Blood. Sprinkle the mercy seat. Right there. Atonement. Atonement. Satisfaction. This is what was
deserving. Death was deserving. The Lord
Jesus Christ came into heaven itself. That veil was rent top
to bottom. Open it up. I mean, just the
very reading. Knowing the respect that was
given to that Holy of Holies. That mercy seat was placed there
right on top of the altar. That mercy seat was the golden
top that had the cherubims and their wings touched in it. One
time a year. One day a year. And that veil
was rent. And it was just opened up showing
that the way into the very presence of God was now established and
opened to every one of God's people, redeemed by the blood
of Christ, regenerated by the Holy Spirit. When we pray, we
enter into the very presence of God. That's what we're doing. We pray to our Father and enter
into His presence, into heaven itself, into the very presence
of the Father, accepted. in the Beloved. He Himself taketh
away the first, that He may establish the second." That first covenant
taken away. Why? Because it was unable to
put away sin. The Lord Jesus Christ had to
come into this world. He satisfied God. Established
righteousness by His perfect obedience. And the obedience
of the Lord Jesus Christ imputed to every one that believes. How
do you know the ones that are robed in the righteousness of
Christ? What's the mark of one robed in His righteousness? They
believe the gospel of God's grace. They believe Christ. They trust
Christ. By the witch, verse 10, will
we are sanctified, set apart, holy. through the offering of
the body of Jesus Christ once for all. By His obedience to
the Father, to the law, by His atoning sacrifice, we are made
holy, sanctified in the sight of God, justified. No condemnation. Therefore, now, no condemnation
Almighty God does not charge His people with iniquity. You say, yes, but I see, as Paul
said, I see in me. I see in me. I see sin that dwells
in me. When I would do good, evil is
present with me. I see it. God Almighty does not
charge you with it. Almighty God has put away your
sin, you that believe. You for whom Christ died, you
are regenerated by the Spirit of God. Almighty God looks upon
you right now. No condemnation. Justified. No guilt. no sin to answer for, sanctified,
made holy by the body and blood broken for the people of God,
for all that God has everlastingly loved. He had a body perfectly
holy, suitable to suffer, a body perfectly suited as the incarnate,
perfectly suited, the incarnate deity. And the offering of the
body of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Scripture says, was once. Do you notice those
words, for all? They are in italics. They are
added. The body of Jesus Christ, through the offering of the body
of Jesus Christ, once. One time. Almighty God is satisfied. Sin has been put away. He said,
I will remember their iniquities no more. Man, I'm telling you,
when you stop and realize what our blessed Savior has done for
us, one of these days, by the grace of God, we're going to
see Him as He is and know Him like Him. and we'll understand
all things. I pray that the Lord bless these
words to our heart. For Christ's sake, Amen.
