If you would turn with me to
the Gospel of Matthew chapter 6. Matthew chapter 6. While you're turning there, let
me say that in the previous chapter, Matthew chapter 5, the Lord Jesus
had taught His disciples to guard against the corrupt doctrines
and opinions of the religious Pharisees. Did you know that
there are still Pharisees? in religion today. I'm not speaking
of a Pharisee in the sense of those who were members of that
ancient Jewish sect that thought that they were distinguished
by their strict observance of the law, but I'm referring to
men and women in religion who are self-righteous, hypocrites,
those who than think themselves to be morally superior, those
that are self-satisfied, holier than thou. I refer to those who
take pride in exalting themselves to believe that they have some
kind of an inside connection and privilege with God because
of some holy, righteous action that they've done. God takes
great offense to such thinking. The first on a list of things
that God hates and that are an abomination to Him is a proud
look. James said that God resisteth
the proud. God opposes. That's what that
word means. God detests. God refuses to accept
such people. But God gives grace to the humble.
I want grace, don't you? I want God to give me grace. God gives grace to those who
are humble, humiliated over their sin. Oh, I tell you, I'm so humiliated
over my sin. My sin that so easily besets
me day in and day out. God gives grace to those who
are depressed, cast down over their offenses against God Almighty. The true believer must and will
guard themselves against such thinking and such actions. And
that's what the Lord has been teaching his disciples in Matthew
chapter five. And now in Matthew chapter six,
Christ is warning his people to guard against the corrupt
practices and self-righteousness that folks are guilty of, even
in their giving and in their praying. In verse one of Matthew
chapter six, the Lord says, take heed that you do not your alms
before men. to be seen of them. Otherwise,
you have no reward of your Father, which is in heaven. And if you
have a marginal Bible, you may notice that the word alms here
means righteousness or righteous acts. Giving alms is speaking
of the giving of gifts, donations, money, charity, even compassion. that are considered righteous
acts done by those that are born of God. And anytime, now listen,
anytime we do something, even if it's an act of generosity,
even if it's a generous giving, a donation or an act of compassion,
if we do it in order to be seen of men, God will give no acknowledgement
or reward. Why? Because we did it for our
own glory. and not for the glory of God.
And that's why the Lord goes on to say here in verse two,
therefore, when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet
before thee as the hypocrites in the synagogues and in the
streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you,
they have their reward. But when thou doest alms, let
not thy left hand knoweth what thy right hand doeth, that thine
alms may be in secret, and thy father which seeth in secret
himself shall reward thee openly." That's pretty self-explanatory,
isn't it? Trust me when I say that others
notice when you're blessed of God. And what we do in secret
is not unnoticed by the Almighty Himself. And then the Lord moves
right on to the second thing, and that's praying. That's our
subject for today. I wanna talk to you about prayer. Look at verse five. The Lord
Jesus says, and when thou prayest, thou shall not be as the hypocrites
are. For they love to pray standing
in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that
they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, they have
their reward. But thou, when thou prayest,
enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray
to the Father which is in secret, and thy Father which seeth in
secret shall reward thee openly. Now let me just comment here
that this is not speaking necessarily of a literal closet. that men
and women go into to pray. It simply means to secretly pray
as not to draw attention to yourself. Did you know that you can enter
into a closet or a secret place while in a public restaurant?
You can in your mind and in your heart enter there. We can secretly
pray to God without closing our eyes or moving our lips or saying
a word. We can thank God for His mercy
and His grace and all His provisions in our heart. And that's what
the Lord is talking about here. He's not condemning public prayer
and joining together with others, other believers in worship services. Matter of fact, He directs us
and encourages us and He instructs us to pray publicly. It's for
the edifying of the body of Christ. And I'm telling you, when I hear
some of you men pray, it's such an encouragement to me. often
just so uplifted. All true believers love to hear
a man that loves Christ. They love to hear that man thank
God for His mercy and His grace and His compassion and the giving
of redemption to them. Don't you? But in public, when
we're out in the world, our Lord says, when thou prayest, and
we are to pray, but pray not as the hypocrites do. For they
love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners
of the streets, that they may what? Be seen of men. Be seen
of men. Their chief ambition is to be
commended by those that see them. They want to be thought of spiritually
superior by their neighbors. And when they're seen and commended
and thought to be such, Christ said they have their reward.
That's it. It doesn't benefit another thing to them. The believing
child of God in no way, shape, or form desires to have any attention
given to them in these matters. They desire all the praise, all
the glory, all the recognition to go to whom it rightly belongs,
and that's God the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. And in verse
seven, the Lord Jesus said, but when you pray, use not vain repetitions. Don't say the same things over
and over as the heathen do. Do you remember the prophets
of Baal? They just kept repeating the
same thing over and over. The scripture says from morning
till noon. from morning till noon. Christ
says, for they think that they shall be heard for their much
speaking. You know, some of the most effective
prayers in all of Scripture were three words. That Syrophoenician woman, she
said, Lord, help me. Lord, help me. And the Lord helped
her. You remember when Peter got out
of the boat and started walking on the water and then he got
his eyes on the winds and the storms and all that and he began
to sink. He began to sink and he cried
out three words, Lord, save me. Lord, save me. And the Lord reached
down His hand and grabbed him and put him back into the boat. Oh, friends, I'm telling you,
Don't say the same things over and over. Don't think that you'll
be heard by much speaking. The Jews were guilty of this,
and if they hadn't been, there wouldn't have been any need of
such advice from our Lord. And in verse eight, he says,
be not ye therefore like unto them, for your father knoweth
what things you have need of before you ask him. And isn't
that just a wonderful revelation? We're not to be imitators of
these and follow their ways. Our Lord says it would be shameful
for us to do as they do. Why? Because we have divine revelation
for our direction. We know that God already knows
what we have need of before we even ask Him. The all-knowing
omniscience of God is a great encouragement for prayer. I think sometimes our prayers
are more for our own benefit. They cause us to ask God for
that help in time of need that we may come boldly into his throne
of grace, seeking and petitioning him for the grace that we so
much need in our daily lives. He knows our frame, He knows
our needs beforehand, and He's able to help us. And what a great
reason to believe that He will, especially since He now, the
scriptures say, liveth to make intercession for us. The Lord
Jesus is at the right hand of God, and He lives, He exists
to make intercession for His people. How comforting a thought.
Now, what we have in the next verses is what many commonly
refer to as the Lord's Prayer. I actually believe that the Lord's
Prayer is found in John chapter 17, but I'm not gonna make an issue over
that. I believe the Lord makes it clear
to us what this prayer is in the beginning of verse nine.
He encourages his people to pray after this manner. This is a
model of prayer. This is an outline for prayer. This is the Lord teaching us
how to pray. I wanna know how to pray. The
Lord is saying pray in this way. That's what these verses are
about. This prayer before us is not a mechanical, mindless,
memorized prayer. No, I think it's actually incredibly
ironic that the very prayer that our Lord gives us and instructs
us to pray here is not to use meaningless repetition. He says
that. And here, in fact, many have
made it just that. They've made it just a meaningless
repetition. They pray these exact words over
and over again. And it's hard to pray anything
over and over without it becoming a meaningless repetition. And
unfortunately, that's what so many have done with it. You know,
I lived in a day when prayer was allowed in school. I lived
in a day where this model prayer here was actually taught in school.
They taught it to us in the first grade. Our Father which art in
heaven, hallowed be thy name. Was that the case with some of
you that are my age? Tell them my age now. But as
a young boy, it became, this prayer, that prayer became nothing
more to me than just a vain repetition. It became a prayer that I repeated
most every time I prayed. Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth
as it is in heaven. Vain repetition. And our Lord did not give us
this model, this pattern in which to pray for that reason. There's
much more about prayer and worship in these verses than what immediately
meets the eye. And I want to briefly this morning
show you that this is a manner, it's a pattern in which every
believing child of God should pray. And at the same time, I
wanna endeavor to show you why the child of God prays this way.
So let's get right into it. Verse nine, and after this manner,
therefore pray ye, our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed
be thy name. Probably shouldn't say this,
but I will. I remember, a story about a little boy who
went to Sunday school class and came out and told his mommy,
he said, mommy, I know what God's name is. And she says, what do
you mean you know what God's name is? He said, it's Howard. She said, why do you think it's
Howard? He said, because the Bible says Howard be thy name. But no, it says, hallowed be
thy name. Holy and reverend be thy name. And the first, I've heard it
said that prayer is the breath of faith. And that's so true.
I like that definition. It's our praying. It's in praying,
in our praying that our faith in God and in Christ is exposed. Praying affects, reflects whether
or not a man or a woman knows God. So my first point is that
believers are praying men and women. Our father, prayer to
God is offered by those who are united to God through Christ. Everything Christ did was as
a us. We've talked so many times about
our union with Christ, how we're one with him, the believer is
one with him. And isn't that our comfort? That
what Christ is, we are in Him. Everything Christ did was in
us. Now let me quickly show you that.
Stick your marker here in Matthew 6 and turn to Ephesians chapter
1 with me. We just wear the first chapter
of Ephesians out, don't we? That's okay. It's a wonderful
chapter of Scripture. Ephesians chapter 1. Here in verse one, Paul is addressing
these words to the saints, which are at Ephesus. You see that?
He's addressing this to the faithful in Christ Jesus. This is written
for believers. And in verse two, he says, grace
be to you. I want you to notice the pronouns
used in these verses. I'll only show you some of them
because I don't have time to show them all to you. The other
evening I opened my Bible and I took my little highlighter
and I begin just to mark all the pronouns found in chapters
one and two of Ephesians. And about the whole page is turned
yellow here. Verse two, grace be to you and
peace from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed
be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has blessed
us Who? Believers, those that trust in
Christ. He's blessed us with all spiritual
blessings in heavenly places in Christ. He's our Father. Verse four, according as He hath
chosen us. He's chosen us in Him before
the foundation of the world that we should be holy and without
blame before Him in love. He's our Father. He loves us. He cares for us. Verse five,
having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus
Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,
to the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He hath made
us accepted in the Beloved. We're accepted in Jesus Christ. God is our Father, and He makes
us accepted in Him, in whom we have redemption through His blood,
the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace, wherein
He hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence. And
having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according
to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself. Look
down at verse 11. In whom also we have obtained
an inheritance. being predestinated according
to the purpose of Him who worketh all things after the counsel
of His own will, that we should be to the praise of the glory
of His grace, the praise of His glory, who first trusted in Christ. And I want you to notice how
personal this is. This is addressed to believers
in Christ, verse 13, in whom ye also trusted, after that you
heard, ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. And whom also that ye believed
and ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit, a promise which
is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased
possession unto the praise of His glory. And I tell you, you
can go right on through the rest of this chapter one and chapter
two. And all these things were given unto His people because
He's our Father. Now, back in Matthew chapter
six, we see that we pray to our father. He's the father of Christ,
but he's also our, the believer's father. And that brings me to
the second thing. All believers are the children
of God. That's what Paul is expressing
to us in Ephesians one there. He is our father. You see, we're his children by
adoption. Romans 8, 15, let me read you
a few verses here. For you've not received the spirit
of bondage again to fear, but you've received the spirit of
adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. Galatians 4, verses 4
and 5, but when the fullness of time was come, God sent forth
his son made of a woman, made under the law to redeem them
that were under the law that we might receive the adoption
of sons, sons and daughters. He's our father. Ephesians 1,
5, we just read it, having predestinated us unto the adoption of children
by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.
God's behind all this. The reason that he's our father
is God made it so. And then we are also born children. You remember the verse in John
chapter one, verse 12 and 13, it says, but as many as received
him, to them he gave power to become the sons of God, even
to them that believe on his name, which were born. not of blood,
nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, finish
it for me, but of God, born of God, adopted into his kingdom. Whosoever is born of God does
not commit sin, for his seed remaineth in him, and he cannot
sin because he's born of God. When God looks at me, He sees
no sin because I'm in Christ. Christ took my sin. He paid the
debt of sin. He satisfied the divine justice
of God on my behalf. And I'm adopted, born into His
kingdom. Beloved, let us love one another,
for love is of God, and everyone that loveth is born of God, and
knoweth God. Whosoever believeth that Jesus
is the Christ is born of God, and everyone that loveth him
that beget loveth him also that is begotten of him. We know that
we've passed from death to life by our love for the brethren.
And for whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world, and
this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Trusting,
knowing, believing in Christ is our substitute, our sacrifice,
and our surety for sin. Now, third thing. Every believer
worships God. That's what we see in this prayer.
He says, our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Oh, I love what Paul wrote in
Philippians 2 verse 9. He said, wherefore God also hath
highly exalted him, speaking of the Lord Jesus, and he's given
him a name which is above every name. It's above every name. That at the name of Jesus, every
knee should bow at things in heaven and things in earth and
things under the earth. and that every tongue should
confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the
Father. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 1
verse 30, but of him are you in Christ Jesus, who of God is
made unto us wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption.
All that God requires of us and from us Christ provides for us. That's the gospel. We say that
all the time. You know, on the day of Pentecost,
Peter preached and he said, repent and be baptized every one of
you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. and
ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. And you know,
when that crippled man begged for alms at the temple gate,
you remember what Peter said? He said, silver and gold have
I none, but such as I have give I thee in the name of Jesus Christ
of Nazareth, rise up and walk. And later on when they asked
Peter by what power he healed this man, Peter said, be it known
unto you all and to all the people of Israel that by the name of
Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised
from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you
whole. It's the power. Hallowed be thy
name. Oh, that's a name above every
name. And friends, true worshipers must worship God in spirit and
truth. Believers are worshipers of God,
and they worship Him in spirit and in truth. There are two requisites
to worship. We worship Him only as the Holy
Spirit enables us in spirit, and we worship Him only in the
truth of who He is and what He's done. You cannot worship Truly
worship a false Christ. You cannot worship a Christ who
is not spoken of in truth. He's the only one who's worthy
of our worship. For we are the circumcision which
worship God in the spirit and rejoice in Christ Jesus and have
no confidence in the flesh. Fourth thing, all believers are
subjects and servants of King Jesus. Our Father, which art
in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Verse 10, thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth as
it is in heaven. You see, only a king has a kingdom. Thy kingdom come. His kingdom's
here. Did you know that? Do you remember
what that saved thief on the cross said to our Lord? He said,
Jesus. And then he said, Lord. You know, I never paid much attention
to that. He said, Jesus. And it's as though he said, no,
I got that wrong. Lord, Lord, King. He said, remember me when thou
comest into thy kingdom. I look forward to the kingdom
in which I will inhabit without sin. Don't you? Oh, there's a
kingdom that God has prepared for us that believe and trust
in Christ. And one day we will live and
inhabit that kingdom without sin. That's when this corruption
shall put on incorruption and this mortal shall put on immortality. Oh, I'm telling you, when I stand
unblameable and unreprovable in God's sight, oh, I'm looking
so forward to that. Believers are not only subjects
and servants of the King, they're children of the King. I'm a child
of the King. Can you say that? If you believe
in Christ and trust in Him alone, you can. All believers are subjects
and servants of the King. Fifth thing that we learn from
this prayer. Believers will be willing servants
to the king. Willing servants. This is the
desire of every believer. Lord, thy will be done. Isn't that what it says? You
see what the Lord's teaching us here? He's teaching us much
more than just a repetitious prayer. He's teaching us something
about who he is, what he's done, who we are, and why we need him. Lord, thy will be done in earth
as it is in heaven. You see, believers bow to the
sovereignty of God. Believers bow to the providence
of God. Believers bow to His will and
His purpose in all things. And I know that's hard. Sometimes
life sends some rough trials and troubles. I've been around
long enough to know that. And we face these things and
we look at them and we say, what's going on here? Lord, why? Oh,
we're all guilty of that, aren't we? Lord, why? But know this,
child of God, He works all things after the counsel of His own
will. And He works all things for the good of them that love
Him, who are the called according to His purpose. And there are
just some things we were never meant to understand. But we bow
to Him. Lord, teach me to bow to You
here on earth. Teach me to rejoice in all things
that happen here. Thy will be done. Thy will be
done. Oh, enable me to say thy will
be done. God does according to his will
in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth.
Lord, thy will be done. In times of trouble, times of
trial and times of tribulation. May the Lord enable me to pray
as my Lord Jesus did. You know, you and I, all that
we face in this life is nothing but light affliction. That's
what the scripture calls it. Especially compared to what he
faced and went through for us as our substitute. Our Lord Jesus
was there in Gethsemane's garden. He knew, he had known since he
was born what he had come into this world to do. And as he prayed
in that garden, it was as great drops of blood he sweat from
his brow. And he said, Lord, if it be possible,
let this cup pass from me. But you see, he knew that it
wasn't possible. Not if he was gonna save you,
child of God, not if he was gonna save me. And he simply said then,
not my will, not my will, but thy will be done. Oh, I pray
that God would enable me to pray that way. How about you? Lord, not what I will. Doesn't
matter what I will. Your will be done. Oh, this is deep ground, isn't it? Father, if thou be willing, remove
this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but
thine, be done. And the sixth thing I want you
to see is that believers pray about everything that they have
no power over. He says in verse 11, give us
this day our daily bread. Luke expresses this in his account
as day by day by day, give us what we need. This is talking
much more than just about bread, meals, temporal provisions. By bread here is meant all the
necessities of life. All the things that we need to
sustain life in us. It's called ours. Give us this
day our daily bread. Give it to us. Not that we have
a right to it. Not that we deserve it. But we
all need it. We can't do without it. But I
think even more importantly here, this is talking about our great
need of spiritual bread. Christ is that bread that came
down from heaven. He's the bread of life. Oh, I'm
telling you, our need of Christ is so great. Lord, give us Christ. Day by day by day. I need Him today. Tomorrow I'll
need Him then. Tuesday I'll need Him. Day by
day. Give us the bread of life. Give
us Christ who is that life. Not just bread, but the bread
of life. Give me Christ today. Give me Christ tomorrow. Give
me Christ day by day. Every day for the rest of my
life. Give us what we cannot provide
for ourselves. Do you desire that? If you do,
thank God. Because it's God that gave you
that desire. You see, that's what grace is.
That's what salvation is. God doing for us. I'm going to
say it again. God doing for us. God giving
to us what we cannot provide for ourselves. Seventh thing. Believers are debtors. Believers
are sinners. Verse 12, and forgive us our
debts. That's talking about sin. Forgive
us our sin. We owe a debt that we cannot
pay. We are debtors to God because
of our sin. Only true believers are true
sinners, and only true sinners are true believers. The beloved John said in his
epistle, 1 John 3, 4, whosoever committed sin transgresseth also
the law, for sin is the transgression of the law. Sin has made us fools. The fool has said in his heart,
there is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done
abominable iniquity. There is none that doeth good.
Psalm 53, 1. Sin has made us ignorant. I hope
that doesn't offend you. That's what God said. For they
being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish
their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto
the righteousness of God. Romans 10, 3. All believers are
debtors to their sin, debtors to God, because all our sin's
against Him. All of it's against Him. Eighth
thing, only got a couple more. A believer is also one who forgives. Boy, now that can be a tough
one, huh? Again, verse 12, and forgive
us our debts as we forgive our debtors. You know, a believer,
by the grace of God, is merciful and gracious. Lord, help me to
be merciful and gracious. Oh, I need that so badly. I want to be merciful and gracious
to others. Five reasons to forgive. If we
don't forgive, God won't forgive us. Well, that's a good motivation,
huh? If we don't forgive, God will
not forgive us. We must forgive in the same manner,
the same way that God forgives us, mercifully, graciously, compassionately. Third reason, we'll be happier
if we forgive. You know, I learned that a long
time ago, but have I learned it? I don't know. I don't know.
We'll be happier if we forgive. We should forgive lest Satan
should get an advantage of us. That's what Paul said in 2 Corinthians. And forgiving, fifthly, is the
most God-like thing we can do. Lord, help me to forgive others
as you've forgiven me for Christ's sake. What has anyone ever done
to you and I that we ourselves have not done to Christ? You
know, that is a good question to ask ourselves. Nobody's ever
done anything to me that I myself haven't done to my Lord and Savior. Ninth thing, even believers are
yet so weak. Verse 13, and lead us not into
temptation. You know that there's, If there's
anything that a believer learns since God enables them to believe,
it's the understanding that they're way too weak to prevail against
temptation without His help. We don't have any ability within
ourselves to deliver ourselves. Lord, put a hedge about me. Lord,
when I'm weak, it's then that I am strong. With the Lord as
my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green
pastures. He leads me beside the still
waters. He leads me in the path of righteousness. Why? For Christ's sake, for His
name's sake. That's why I have hope. He does
those things for His beloved's sake. He restores our soul. As my shepherd, his rod and his
staff comfort me. They keep me from harm. When
I go astray, he takes that hook of the shepherd's staff and keeps
me close at hand. Oh, surely goodness and mercy
shall follow me all the days of my life. Every single day,
He's my shepherd. And because of that, I'll dwell
in the house of the Lord forever. Lord, lead us not into temptation. Again, we knowledge His sovereignty
and His providence when we pray this way. God is in control of
all things. Lord, lead us not into temptation. He is leading His dear children
along. And it's the believer's prayer
not to be led into temptation. Why? Because we know that in
and of ourselves, we'll fail. Lord, lead us not into temptation. And then look what it says in
the last part of that verse, but deliver us from evil. Lastly, number 10, believers
are rescued people. You know, many of you, have rescued
a dog sometime in your life. Friends, you're looking at a
rescued dog. That's what believers are. That's
what Mephibosheth said. He bowed himself to David, his
king, and he said, what is thy servant? He's a servant. He said, but what is thy servant
that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I? Now I tell you, some of you have
adopted, rescued a dog, but I would dare to say that none of you
have rescued a dead dog. That's what Christ did. Rescued
a dead dog. I'm living proof. Lord, deliver me from evil. Deliver me from the evil one.
Deliver me from this evil world. Deliver me from me, the evil
within. The Lord Jesus said, If ye then,
being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children,
how much more shall your Father, which is in heaven, give good
things to them that ask? While we being the evil that
we are, well, we know how to be good and gracious and merciful
to our children. We know how to be forgiving to
them. How much more? How much more shall your Father,
which is in heaven, give good things to them that ask Him? You gotta ask Him. That's what
prayer is, it's asking God. Oh, I'm telling you, many would
take offense to being called evil, but not the child of God.
And their constant prayer is, Lord, deliver me from evil, even
if that evil is me. From within, out of the heart
of men, proceed evil thoughts. adulteries, fornications, murders,
thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil
eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness, they all come from the evil within. Beloved, the Lord has delivered
us from all these things within. He delivered me from myself. And in verse 13 he says, for
thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever.
Amen. It's all you, God. It's all I am, nothing. I can
do nothing. Christ said that, didn't He?
Without Me, you can do nothing. So my prayer this morning is
this. Lord, teach us to pray. That's
what the disciples asked. He said, teach us to pray. And
the Lord said, pray in this manner. That's what this is about. Lord,
enable us to pray. Enable us to pray. Not just teach
us, but enable us. Show us our need. Cause us to
cry out unto you for mercy and for grace. And then thirdly,
Lord, hear our prayers. Lord, hear me. Hear me when I
