Go with me if you would back
to Hebrews 11. There are seven verses that summarize
the life of Moses here in Hebrews 11. Verse 23 begins with his
birth. And verse 29 ends with him being
80 years old, officially delivering the children of Israel. out of
the bondage of Pharaoh and passing through the Red Sea. The end
of verse 29 says, which the Egyptians a saying to do were drowned. And that was it. They were officially
at that point. They said, he said, you'll see
your enemies dead on the shore. They did. It was over. He was
over. Now Moses, as a man, he's a wonderful
example of faith. He keeps saying, by faith, by
faith. His parents are a wonderful example
of faith. Verse 23 says, by faith, Moses,
when he was born, was hid three months of his parents because
they saw he was a proper child And they were not afraid of the
king's commandment. They took their newborn baby.
They could no longer hide him. And they took this newborn baby
who Pharaoh said had to be cast into the river. That was his
law. That was the commandment he made.
And Pharaoh was afraid. that the children of Israel were
going to grow to such a large number that they would go to
war with Egypt and defeat them. That's why he said that. He said,
I want every male child that is born to be cast into the river. Every single one. So in order
to save his life, because the Egyptians were coming into the
houses and taking these babies, They made a little ark of bulrushes
and they daubed it with slime and pitch. And they put him in
it and they set him down into that river. Which is interesting
if you think about it. The commandment is all the babies
have to go into that river. So what did they do? They set
him down into the river. That's where they chose to put
him. And then they pushed him off. Can you imagine doing that? That's faith. That's faith. They
literally took Moses and they put him in God's hands. They
pushed him off. Our God has said in his word,
cast your bread upon the waters and you'll find it again. Put
everything in the Lord's hands and He'll take care of it. They
literally, they just put Moses in the Lord's hands. He'll take
care of it. Well, we know the story. Moses
was found by Pharaoh's daughter and taken into the house of Pharaoh
and raised as the son of Pharaoh's daughter. Moses grew up knowing
Pharaoh as granddaddy. Papa, Papa, big daddy. That's how Moses, that was the
relationship between Moses and Pharaoh. How many times do you
think they hugged each other, kissed each other and said, I
love you? Can't you see Moses at five years old? Pharaoh reaching
down. I mean, this was his grandson
heir to the throne reaching down. I love you, buddy. Can't you
see that? Love you, Papa. Pharaoh bought him and gave him
the finest Egypt had to offer. Educated him, told him one day,
Moses, this is all going to be yours. every bit of it. Moses, you see this throne right
here? One day this one is going to
be yours. But there was a day that came that God revealed himself
to Moses, but God. He saw the true and living God
in a burning bush. It struck absolute fear into
him, absolute fear. God revealed to him who his people
were, who the people of God were. He revealed to Moses, you are
one of my people and these are my people. And God revealed to
him that everything that was going on in Egypt was not only
idolatry and wickedness and pride, but the fact that God's people
were being held in bondage, that was sin and rebellion against
God because God said, let my people go. That was HIS demand. Let my people go. So, verse 24
says, By faith, Moses, when he was come to years, refused to
be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, choosing rather to
suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the pleasures
of sin for a season. esteeming the reproach of Christ
greater riches than the treasures in Egypt, for he had respect
unto the recompense of the reward." He obeyed God. He obeyed God. God-given faith and he obeyed
God. Verse 27 says, "...by faith he
forsook Egypt, NOT FEARING THE WRATH OF THE KING, FOR HE ENDURED
AS SEEING HIM WHO IS INVISIBLE. He feared God. He didn't fear
man. He feared God. Verse 28 says,
THROUGH FAITH HE KEPT THE PASSOVER AND THE SPRINKLING OF BLOOD,
LEST HE THAT DESTROYED THE FIRSTBORN SHOULD TOUCH THEM. He believed
God. The law says, an eye for an eye. That's what Moses' law says,
the God-given law says. An eye for an eye. This is what
Pharaoh said. He said, I'm gonna kill all the
male children in Israel. God said, Moses, get ready. I'm
coming through the land. And I'm gonna kill every firstborn
male in Egypt. And I for an eye and God did. And he said, now I want you to
take them out into the wilderness, take them out of Egypt. And I
want you to take them out there into the wilderness where there
is nothing there, nothing out there. I'll provide for you everything
you need. I'll take care of everything
you need. verse 29 says God opened the Red Sea for them by faith
they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land and they went
out Moses obeyed God He feared God, he believed God, he followed
God. He is a wonderful example of
faith for us. We ought to truly see his example
and follow his example. But that is not the reason why
these seven verses were written. He is a wonderful example of
faith. But that's not why these seven verses were written. Everything
about the life of Moses is a picture of Christ, our Savior. Every
bit of it. It's a picture of Christ, our
Deliverer, and He's a picture of Christ, our Keeper and Upholder
of the Law. Just like Moses, our Lord was
born into this world a real man, God Himself, but a real child. He was born into the same affliction
and persecution that his people were born into. This is amazing
to me. If you've never seen this, this
is amazing. Our Lord was born into Moses being the picture
of the Deliverer. Our Lord was born into the same
affliction that his people were born into. Look with me at Matthew
chapter 2. Matthew 2 verse 1 says, Now when
Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judah in the days of Herod the
king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem
saying, where is he that is born King of the Jews? For we have
seen His star in the east and are come to worship Him." That's
what these wise men were saying. They saw the star, they followed
it, they came and they're asking, where is He? Verse 3, when Herod
the king had heard these things, he was troubled and all Jerusalem
with him. And when he gathered all the
chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded
of them where Christ should be born. And they said unto him,
In Bethlehem of Judah, for thus it is written by the prophet,
And thou, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, art not the least among
the princes of Judah, for out of thee shall come a governor
that shall rule my people Israel. Then Herod, when he had privately
called the wise men, inquired of them diligently what time
the star appeared. He wanted to know where is this
one who is born king. Herod's the king. He wants him
dead. Verse eight, and he sent them
to Bethlehem and said, go and search diligently for the young
child. And when you have found him,
bring me word again that I may come and worship him also. Verse
12 says, and being warned of God in a dream that they should
not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another
way. And when they were departed,
behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream
saying, arise and take the young child and his mother and flee
into Egypt. I want you to go into Egypt and
be thou there until I bring thee word for Herod will seek the
young child to destroy him. When he arose, he took the young
child and his mother by night and departed into Egypt. and
was there until the death of Herod that it might be fulfilled
which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet saying out of
Egypt have I called my son. Then Herod when he saw that he
was mocked of the wise men was exceeding wrath and sent forth
and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem. and in all
the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according
to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men. Our Lord entered this world,
not in the praise and the glory and the honor that he deserved.
He entered this world under the same affliction and hatred and
persecution that his people were under. Same events took place.
When Moses was born, Representing the Lord Jesus Christ, the commandment
was, every male child has to go into the river. So in obedience
to the commandment of the law, Christ went into the river. Moses representing Christ, he
went into the river. Now the glory of our gospel is
in the fact that Christ came back out of the river. All those
babies were thrown into the river. All those babies. Moses went
into the river. Moses is the only one who came
back out of the river. And that was Christ. That river
was certain death. Soul after soul after soul died
in that river. And Christ, our deliverer, under
the commandment of the law. He went into that river too.
But as Moses pictures, Christ is the only one who came back
out. Only one. Our ark went in. Our ark came back out. Our ark won the victory over
the river of death. Alright, go with me back to Hebrews
11. Verse 24 says, By faith Moses,
when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's
daughter. Our Lord Jesus Christ, the rightful
heir of the throne of God, he left his throne. He left his
throne. He left the glory and the honor
and the majesty of His kingdom. He left all the comforts. He
left all the pleasures. He gave up all things. He gave every bit of it up. Verse
25 says, Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of
God. He chose to leave the glory of
paradise in order to come down to the slime pits. The Hebrews
were down in the slime pits making bricks. They were in, Exodus
says, the miry clay. That's what the translation is,
the miry clay. And He chose to leave glory,
the majesty of His kingdom, and come down into the slime pits
with His people. And when he got here, he chose
not to take any glory, he chose not to take any honor, no praise,
no recognition that this world could have and should have given
him. Verse 25 says, Choosing rather
to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the
pleasures of sin for a season. esteeming the reproach of Christ
greater riches than the treasures in Egypt, for he had respect
unto the recompense of the reward." Turn with me over to Luke chapter
4. Luke 4, our Lord right here has
just entered His ministry. He was baptized just before this. We see this, don't turn, but
in chapter 3 verse 21 and 22 is where He was baptized by John
the Baptist and God the Father spoke out loud and He said, this
is My beloved Son in whom I am well pleased. And immediately
right after that, chapter 4 verse 1 says, And Jesus, being full
of the Holy Ghost, returned from Jordan and was led by the Spirit
into the wilderness, being forty days tempted of the devil. And
in those days he did eat nothing. And when they were ended, he
afterward hungered. And the devil said unto him,
If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.
And Jesus answered him saying, it is written that man shall
not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. And the
devil taking him up into a high mountain showed unto him all
the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, every kingdom
that was at that moment of time, raining on the earth at that
moment of time. Verse 6, And the devil said unto
him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them. For that is delivered unto me,
and to whomsoever I will give it. If thou therefore will worship
me, all shall be thine and Jesus answered and said unto him get
thee behind me Satan for it is written thou shalt worship the
Lord thy God in him only shalt thou serve our Lord could have
spent his time on this earth the fact that the adversary offered
him that tells us he didn't believe he was God Almighty who already
owns everything anyway it's unbeliever But our Lord could have spent
His time on this earth, those 33 and a half years. He could
have spent it in the power and the glory and the riches of everything
this world has to offer. But He wouldn't take it. He would
not take it. Instead, He took rejection, hatred,
dishonor, and poverty. That's what He chose to take.
The foxes at that time had holes. The birds of the air had nests.
But the Son of Man didn't even have a place to lay His head. No place. Why is that? The God who created everything,
why is that? It's because He chose to suffer
affliction with the people of God. rather than to enjoy the
pleasures of this sinful world for a season. He chose to live
with us as us. Go with me back to Hebrews 11. Verse 24 says, By faith Moses,
when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's
daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people
of God than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season, esteeming
the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in
Egypt, for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward.
By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king,
for he endured as seeing him who is invisible." Now Moses
forsook. But Christ was forsaken. He was
forsaken. The whole reason He came was
for the purpose of being forsaken. That's the one and only reason
He came, was so He could be forsaken. He was willingly forsaken, not
fearing the wrath, the wrath of God Almighty against Him because
of our sin. Not fearing. all the punishment, all the damnation,
all the separation. He set his face like a flint.
He set his face like a flint. He endured it seeing Him who
is invisible. He said, Father, not my will
thine be done. The whole time he was in perfect
communion with his Father. He said, My God, my God, why
hast thou forsaken me? He said, Into thy hands I commend
my spirit. Verse 28 says, Through faith
he kept the Passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he
that destroyed the firstborn should touch them. When it was
time for Moses to deliver the people, we know, we've read it
many times over in Exodus 12, God said, kill a lamb. Isn't that what he said? God
said, kill a lamb. And when it was time for Christ
to deliver his people, God Almighty said, kill a lamb. Kill a lamb. He said, when I see the blood,
I'll pass over them. Every soul needs a lamb over
there in Exodus 12. It says a lamb for a house every
house Needs a lamb. This is a house. My soul lives
in here. That's a house. That's a house
That's a house a lamb for every house every individual soul Needs
a lamb and God said that's what I've provided. I God's message
in His Word cries to every single one of His people, BEHOLD YOUR
LAMB, BEHOLD THEE LAMB, THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, THE LAMB OF GOD
WHICH TAKES AWAY THE SIN OF THE WORLD. Verse 28 says, THROUGH
FAITH HE KEPT THE PASSOVER AND THE SPRINKLING OF BLOOD LEST
HE THAT DESTROYED THE FIRSTBORN SHOULD TOUCH THEM. Who is them? That's God's particular people.
God destroyed Christ His firstborn so that He would not have to
destroy them. What did that accomplish? What
does that mean for His people? Verse 29 says, By faith they
passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, which the Egyptians,
assaying to do, were drowned. They were standing. This is the
full deliverance of a child of God. Our deliverer entered into
this world, a baby born into that affliction. He willingly
gave up the throne, the luxuries, and he came down and he entered
into everything we are. He united Himself with us and
He despised not the shame and He feared not the wrath and punishment
and He endured everything we were supposed to get as our Passover
Lamb, as our substitute, as our bloody sacrifice. Now what does
that mean for us, okay? Here they are, verse 29 says,
by faith they passed through the Red Sea. The children of
Israel, they're standing at the Red Sea. They came out of Egypt.
Pharaoh changed his mind. He sent all of his armies after
them. They're pinned up. And they're standing at this
great gulf that they cannot pass. And that's us. Our sins are behind
us and we have a great gulf before us that we cannot pass. Moses
says, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. That red
sea, that gray gulf represents something God told Moses to make.
Whenever he made the tabernacle, God told Moses to make a veil. And it represented this gray
gulf, the veil in the temple that separated the holy place
from the holy of holies. It could not be passed. A sinner
could not pass it. Any sinner who tried to enter
into the veil was immediately killed on sight. Only God's High
Priest carrying the blood of God's Lamb could enter in. It says the Egyptians trying
to do it were drowned. And only the one God would accept
was allowed to come in and cross that veil. But Moses the Deliverer,
he walked up to that great gulf and he lifted up the rod. That's
what God told him to do. He said, you take your rod and
you lift it up. representing Christ our High
Priest lifting up His own blood. And when Moses did that before
the great gulf, that Red Sea, that huge great gulf, when Moses
lifted that up, that great gulf was rent in twain. And when Christ
lifted up His blood, that veil was rent in twain. Look back one page to Hebrews
10 verse 19. Having therefore brethren boldness
to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new
and living way. There was a way we could not
go, and He created this new and living way. By a new and living
way, which He consecrated, newly made, for us, through the veil,
that is to say, His flesh. He's saying, when I say the veil,
I'm talking about his flesh. Verse 21 says, and having an
high priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a
true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled
from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. on the cross of Calvary, when
the flesh of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was rent in Dwayne,
He opened up the way wide open for every single child of God,
every soul He came to deliver to walk straight into glory.
Straight into glory. And back in chapter 11, it says
in verse 29, By faith they passed through
the Red Sea as by dry land. There was no mud. When he did
that there was no sin sticking to them. They went clean. They went over clean. Verses 23 through 28, they keep
saying he. As we read through these, it
keeps saying he, he, he. He did this, he did this, he
did this. And then verse 29 says, by faith,
they. Passed right through. He did
it all for them. And that's what we're giving
thanks for. That's what we're about to give thanks for. Let's
do what we do here. In remembrance of him. In remembrance
of that rent flesh, broken body and shed blood. All right, Brother
David, you come and read for us.
