Psalm 107. I am begging the Lord. Yesterday He blessed my soul
with this, and I would love for Him to do it again. I know He
doesn't have to, but I personally want to enter into this again.
I'm going to read one verse of Scripture to you. We have a one-verse
text. And as soon as I read this, some
of us are going to immediately get it. Some of us are going
to enter into it immediately. We're going to say, yes, I know
that well. I know it well. Look at verse
20. Psalm 107, verse 20. It says, He sent His Word and
healed them. and delivered them from their
destructions." Has that ever happened to you? He sent His
Word and healed them. Has the Word of God ever come
to you at just the right moment, just the right verse, and it healed you? He sent his
word and healed them and delivered them from their destructions.
What we have right there is a who, what, how, and why. That's what
we have. Some of you are in the medical field. And you see some things firsthand. You see probably a lot of things
that the rest of us don't see. But even if you're not in the
medical field, everybody here knows about the awful condition
that our nation's health care is in. Don't you? Everybody knows that. It is terrible. It's absolutely terrible. You
cannot hardly afford health insurance. You need to get with a big company
because alone you can hardly afford health insurance. Hospitals
are having to make cutbacks. They're having to cut corners.
Some of them are having to shut down. You know that? But there's
one that I've heard about that has an unlimited supply of resources,
an unlimited supply And because of that, this hospital does not
charge any of its patients. And they don't just take anybody.
You have to meet certain requirements. But if the patient meets that
requirement, it doesn't cost that patient a dime. Not one
dime. It is totally free. This hospital, is huge. It's huge. This hospital has
more beds than every other hospital in the world combined. Every other one. Plenty of room. Unlimited resources. Plenty of
room. This hospital only has one physician Just one physician. And now everybody's getting it.
Everybody's smiling. This physician has never lost
a patient. Never. Not one. Not one sick person has ever
died in his hospital. Not one. Every one of them has
walked out healed and healthy. Everyone who came to this hospital. All right, I see what you're
doing. I get it now. I thought you were telling me
the truth. I am. I am. Turn with me over to Mark chapter
two. Mark chapter 2 verse 14 says,
And as he passed by, he saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, sitting
at the receipt of custom. And he said unto him, follow
me. And he arose and followed him. And it came to pass that
as Jesus sat at meet in his house, many publicans and sinners sat
also together with Jesus and his disciples. For there were
many, that's my favorite part, and they followed him. And when
the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners,
they said unto his disciples, how is it that he eateth and
drinketh with publicans and sinners? When Jesus heard it, he saith
unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician,
but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous,
but sinners to repentance." They that are whole have no need of
the physician. I think I need the physician.
You know that? The physician. Turn with me over
to Luke chapter 6. Luke chapter 6 verse 17 says, And He came down
with them and stood in the plain. and the company of His disciples
and a great multitude of people out of all Judea and Jerusalem,
and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear
Him and to be healed of their diseases. And they that were
vexed with unclean spirits, and they were healed." And the whole
multitude sought to touch him, for there went virtue out of
him, and healed them all." Healed them all. Every sick person who
was brought to this physician was healed. When he walked this
earth and he began his ministry, for three and a half years, every
single sick person that was brought to him was healed. Every single
one. He didn't turn away one sick. He healed them all. Every one
of them. Not one person ever died in his
presence. Did you know that? Not one person ever died in His
presence. And any person who was already
dead, when He came up to them, they lived. Every single one. Jairus' daughter, that centurion,
she lived. There was a boy one time that
was carried out in a coffin. It says the Lord saw his mother
and had compassion on her and He said, Son, I say unto you,
arise. He got up. Lazarus, come forth. Every single one. The great physician,
Jesus Christ, is the one that Psalm 107 is talking about. From
the very first page of this book to the very last page of this
book, every word in it is about Jesus Christ. Every single word. He, it says. Go with me back
over to Psalm 107. Verse 20 says, He, that's Jesus
Christ, the greatest physician, the only physician who has never
lost a patient, He prescribes the same prescription every time. What is it? Verse 20 says, He
sent His Word. He sent his word every single
time. It's the same prescription for
every patient. One physician, one prescription
can cure every sickness, every disease there is. Well, you're
not talking about physical sickness. I know you're not. You're not
talking about physical disease. Yes, I am. Yes, I am. He's able. But there's no real
need in it. There's no real need in it. You
know that's what most everybody wants is a physical healing.
I have a physical sickness and that's why I want to come to
the great physician. I've been in this wheelchair
all my life and I want nothing more than to get out. There's
no need. No need. I have cancer and they're telling
me I only have six months to live. There's no need. There's
no need. It is appointed unto man once
to die. You know that? Our Lord is going
to use some means to carry that out. I talked to my brother Donny
Bell on the phone today. Every time I obviously talk to
him, but almost all the time I think about his wife just died
of cancer. And our Lord is going to use
some means to carry out bringing his people home. Some means.
And if He heals us of this particular disease, that's great. But death
is still right around the corner. You know that? I thought a couple of months
ago I had cancer. And I'm so thankful I don't. But if I did
and He healed me of that, that's great. Death is still right around
the corner. There's no need. That is not
why we're coming to this position. All of His healings represent
a greater need. There is a greater need. There
is an eternal need. It's a spiritual need. For that
need, He sent His Word. He sent His Word. Who is that? Everybody knows what John 1 says.
In the beginning was the Word. It goes on down to say, and the
Word was made flesh. God's people were sick, sick
people, sick with sin. That's what we're all sick with,
is sin. And only one prescription could
heal them. It was Jesus Christ. God sent
His Word. There was a problem. So you know
what God did? He sent His Word. He sent Christ. Now who was the Word sent to?
Who are these patients that the great physician came to? Look
at verse 2 right here in Psalm 107. Verse 2 says, let the redeemed
of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the
enemy. He came to those who were held
captive by the enemy. That's who he came to. Somebody
says, well, not me. I'm not held captive by any man.
I'm a free agent. I'm my own free man. I can make
my own free will choices. Well, he didn't come to you.
He came to the captive. The man who says, I'm bound,
somebody help me! That's who he came to. Bound by sin. Hold your place
right here and go to Isaiah 61. Now this is the Lord speaking,
this is Christ speaking. Isaiah 61 verse 1 says, The Spirit
of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord hath anointed me to
preach good tidings unto the meek. He hath sent me to bind
up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and the
opening of the prison to them that are bound. That's who I
came to. I came into this world and went
straight to the prison, bound by sin, opened all the prison
doors. Every soul that knows he or she
is bound by sin, that's who this great physician came to. Every
soul who's dying and hurting and depressed in agony and sorrow,
sitting in their cell of sin, this great physician came and
said, the doors have been opened. You're free to go. You're free
to go. Go back over to Psalm 107. Look
at verse 4. Who did this physician come to?
Verse 4 says, They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary
way. They found no city to dwell in. They were lost. They're just wandering in the
wilderness. Where are you going? I don't know. We can't find a
city. Well, you must be lost. Yes, we're lost. You go up to
somebody and ask them, are you lost? No. No, I'm not lost. Well, that's not who Christ came
to save. He came to save the lost. Outside of Christ, here's
my testimony. Okay, I'm going to give my testimony.
We don't give testimonies here, but here's my testimony. Outside
of Christ, I'm lost. If Christ leaves me alone, I'm
lost. I'm not a spiritual holy roller.
I'm not wise in the ways of things. I'm just going to be lost. If
Christ leaves me alone, I'm just going to be lost. I'm going to be bound in my sin.
I'm going to be lost. But if a man knows he's lost,
here's the good news of the gospel. This great physician is coming
straight to the lost. He knows where you are. He will
find you. I promise. I promise. Who did he come to? Look at verse
9. For he satisfieth the longing
soul. and filleth the hungry soul with
goodness. He came to those who see their
need. Who see their need. You know
who comes to a soup kitchen to get a free meal? Somebody who
is hungry. I mean hungry. I have a need. I have a need. He came to those who hunger and
thirst for righteousness. Did they do that on their own?
No, they were born dead in their trespasses and sins. He put that
hunger in them. That hunger is a good sign. It's
a good sign. It's a sign of life. A dead corpse
has no hunger, but if a person can truly say, I'm hungry, that's
a good sign. Who did he come to? Verse 10
says, such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being
bound in affliction and iron. He came to the blind, those who
are sitting in darkness, spiritually blind. He came to the dead, spiritually
dead. Can you say that outside of Christ
you are a dead soul? Can you say that? Outside of
Christ I'm a blind soul. The only light I have is Christ. The only life I have is Christ. If you can say that, that's who
this great physician came to. Verse 10 says, such as sit in
darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction
and iron, because they rebelled against the words of God and
condemned the counsel of the Most High. He came to the rebel
against God. Well, that doesn't make sense.
I thought he came to the good church-going person. No. Not
according to Psalm 107. He came to the rebel against
God. He came to the one who says in
his flesh, I will not have that man reign over me. Won't have
him reign over me. The great physician came to that
sick mind and said, oh yes, you will. Thank God. Look at verse 17. It says, fools. That's who he came to. He came
to fools. Turn over to Psalm 14. Hold your
place here and go to Psalm 14. Psalm 14 verse 1 says, "...the fool hath said in his
heart, there is no God. They are corrupt, they have done
abominable works, there is none that doeth good." The Lord looked
down from heaven upon the children of men to see if there were any
that did understand and seek God." You know, we could sit
here and say, well, they're fools over there. They're not even
seeking God. They're not even doing what they're supposed to
be doing. They're not living right, and they're not this,
and they're not that. They're a bunch of fools over there. This right
here says, we're all fools. The Lord looked down from heaven
upon the children of men to see if there were any that did understand
and seek God. They are all gone aside. They are all together become
filthy. There is none that doeth good,
no, not one." Well, surely there's a little bit of good in everybody.
Not according to Psalm 14. The only thing that's good in
me is Christ in me. That's it. That's it. You know,
you call a man a fool, and he is not going to like that at
all. He is just not going to like that. He's going to be highly
offended by that. But once the great physician
comes to that man, He will immediately say, I'm a fool. Job was spouting
off and then when God finally revealed Himself in all of His
glory, Job said, I tell you what, I think I'm going to put my hand
over my mouth and I don't think I'm going to say anything else.
I'm a fool. Let God be true and let me be
a fool. And I mean that. I really do.
I'm a fool. Go with me back to Psalm 107. Verse 17 says, "'Fools, because
of their transgression and because of their iniquities, are afflicted. Their soul abhorreth all manner
of meat, and they draw near unto the gates of death.' They naturally
hate all manner of meat. The meat that God himself provides. Heavenly manna. Those Israelites said, we hate
this light bread, didn't they? That's what they said. They said,
we hate this light bread. Christ said, I'm that bread. They said, well, we hate that
bread. We hate it. Truly, truly sick people. Sick people. But I want to show
you something. Go with me to John 11. We sing a song that says, amazing
love, how can it be? All right, John 11 verse 3 says,
therefore his sisters sent unto him saying, Lord, behold, he
whom thou lovest is sick. In spite of all our awful, wicked
sickness, God commended His love to us in that while we were yet
sinners, Christ died for us. I want you to go there. Go to
Romans 5. Romans 5 verse 6 says, For when we were yet without
strength, in due time Christ died for the good church going
people. No he didn't. He died for the
Ungodly. I think that's a strong word.
That's so much stronger than sinners. Ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous
man will one die, yet peradventure for a good man some would even
dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward
us and that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. The great physician came to us
and he took that sickness off of us and he laid it on himself
and every single patient that comes to his hospital, that's
what he does for them. He bears their sickness. Every single one. If the Lord
gives me a physical disease and I die tonight, that was the means,
that was His means to His end. But there is a greater sickness
that He has healed me of. That sin, He took it off of me
and He laid it on Himself. Every patient that he admits
into that hospital, he bears their sickness. He takes it on
himself. And after they're relieved of
it, every single one of them knows, I was bound. He set me
free. They say, I was bound. Ask a
man who has been in prison and set free, were you incarcerated? Yeah. How do you know? Oh, I
know. I know. Every man who's relieved of that
will say, I was lost but now I'm found. You ask somebody who
literally has been out in the jungle of Africa for seven days. Were you lost? Yeah. How do you
know? I know. I was blind. Now I see. You think that man
knew he was blind? I was blind. I was deaf. Now I hear. I was dead, now I'm alive. I was a rebel, now I want nothing
more than to obey His precious commandment. I love thy law.
I love thy law. I'm a fool, but He is my wisdom. If I have Him, I have all wisdom.
Man cannot live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds
out of the mouth of God. Our text says, he sent his word
and healed them and delivered them from their destructions. That's his result. The physician,
his prescription, and his result every time. The great physician, has healed
his people of every sickness except for two. Except for two. And I'm not talking about cancer
and I'm not talking about autoimmune disease. I'm talking about an
inward, spiritual, heartfelt sickness. The great physician
has healed every sickness for the people God put into him,
except for two. I'm very confident, except for
two. Let me show you what they are, okay? Go with me to Song
of Solomon, chapter 5. Song of Solomon, chapter 5. Look
at verse 8. I charge you, O daughters of
Jerusalem, if you find my beloved, that you tell him that I am sick
of love. Love sick. I'm just love sick. Do you remember being about 12
or 13 years old and experiencing lovesickness for the first time
in your life? Just lovesick. What's the matter
with you? How come you can't eat your dinner?
He's lovesick. Oh. And it hurts in a good way,
but it hurts. But I wouldn't want to be without
it. You can see a man go from his
absolute lowest to his absolute highest by just getting a word,
just a note, a call, just passing the hallways, hey, hey. Well,
he sent us his word. He sent his word. It is the only thing that will
cure lovesickness. He sent His Word and He healed
them. Every time we open this Word,
we come in here so regretful over our sin and our wickedness. We open this Word and we see
who Christ came to save. We see who Christ said, ìI love,î
who Christ set Him free, and we say, ìHe does love me. He
does love me.î Godís people are truly lovesick for Him. They
are completely smitten with one man. They are not smitten with
theology. They are smitten with Christ. I want Him. That's what I want
is Him. And they hold on to His Word
tightly. This is my letter from Him. Him
to me. And there's one other kind of
sickness that I believe all God's people still have, and they're
going to have it until the day they leave this earth. Go over
to Revelation 22. I was never in the military,
but I've heard stories about men and women who have had to
go overseas and be there for an extended period. And they
start thinking about their family. They start thinking about their
wives and their husbands and their children. Could you imagine?
And their parents. And they start to become very
homesick. And I've heard those men and
women say, the only thing that got me through was that letter.
I got that letter from home. Well, He sent His Word. And right
here in Revelation 22 verse 20, "...He which testifieth these
things saith, Surely I am coming quickly." I'm coming to get you. I went to prepare a place for
you. Make it ready to receive you unto myself. I'm coming back
to get you. I'm coming quickly. Amen. Even so, come Lord Jesus. Hang
on to His Word. Keep reading His Word. The longer
God's people are in this world, the more homesick they become.
But James 5 verse 8 says, Be ye also patient. Establish your
hearts for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. That will
heal a homesick man. He sent his word and healed them
and he delivered them from all their destructions. Thank God
for his word. Let's hold on to it. Keep studying
it, reading it. All right, let's stand together.
