All right, let's open back up
to Ruth chapter 4 again. Let's have one more word of prayer. Dear Lord, we call and we call
and we call. Lord, we beg for your spirit
and your help. Because we need it so badly.
Dear Lord, would you prepare us now? Help us to enter into
the holiness of your word. Dear Lord, please. Show us Christ
and him crucified, we pray. For Christ's sake, amen. Two Sundays ago, we looked at
this holy, holy, holy event of what took place leading up
to the great transaction. Our Lord in the garden, where our Lord took upon himself
all the sin of his people. And as I just say that, oh, I
wish I could enter into that. This holy transaction where all
the sin of his people was pressed into him. Pressed, pressed. where he was touched with the
feeling of our infirmities, where he bore the extreme burden,
the weight, the burden, the extreme weight of our griefs and our
sorrows. He said, my soul is exceeding
sorrowful unto death. I want to die over this. And all of heaven and all of his saints on earth,
they watched and waited while he went to battle with death
in hell. And in the process of the fighting,
his precious visage was marred more than any man,
more than any man has ever known. And Satan and sin bruised his
heel. But after he crushed Satan's
head, he said, father, it is finished. It's finished. The battle is over. And then he gathered up all of
the paid for sin. Of all the children that God
gave him. And he carried them down into
the grave. And he left him there. Now look
at chapter 4 verse 1. Then went Boaz. Up to the gate. After it was all finished. After
his work down here was done, sin conquered, put away. Then went Boaz up to the gate,
straight up to the gate. Can you imagine the ascent by
which he ascended back up to the throne? With all of heaven shouting for
victory, here he comes. Hosanna to the King of Israel.
Glory to God in the highest. David wrote, O sing unto the
Lord a new song, for he hath done marvelous things His right
hand and His holy arm have gotten Him the victory. It's finished. It's finished. This thing of salvation and sin,
it's finished. It's all finished. Verse 1 says,
Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there. Hebrews
says, when he had by himself purged our sins, he went back
up to his father and he sat down there at the right hand of God. Went up to the gate and sat him
down there and behold, the kinsmen of whom Boaz spake, the kinsmen
that Boaz told Ruth about, that's the law, came by. Unto whom Boaz said,
Ho, such a one, turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside
and sat down. The law obeyed. Verse two says, and he took 10
men of the elders of the city and said, sit ye down here. And they sat down. This is the
King talking. You know that? This is the king
of glory. Sit down right here. Yes, sir. Verse three says, and he said
unto the kinsmen, Naomi, that means grace, pleasant, beautiful
grace, the grace of God. He said unto the kinsmen, Naomi,
that is come again out of the country of Moab. That's sin,
the land of sin. Selleth a parcel of land, which
was our brother Elimelech, God of the king. The grace of God was sent down
to the land of sin and grace has come back. Law, will you
receive it? Will you buy it back? Law, will
you redeem the grace of God? Is the grace of God still holy
and pure and unblameable in your sight? Grace went down to the
land of sin. Grace has come back. Will you
redeem it? Verse 4 says, And I thought to
advise thee, saying, Buy it before the inhabitants and before the
elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it, redeem
it. But if thou wilt not redeem it,
then tell me that I may know, for there's none to redeem it
beside thee, and I am after thee. And he said, I will redeem it.
Is God's grace still flawless in your sight? Yes, it is. Yes, it is. God's grace is good. God's grace is right. The law
says I must redeem it. It's perfect. Verse 5 says, Then
said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of grace? Thou must buy it also of Ruth
the Moabitess. Good news. Good news. The grace of God must come back
with a recipient of grace. Must. If you buy the field from
the hand of grace, you must also buy it from the hand of the sinner
who has received grace. Verse 5 says, What day thou buyest
the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth
the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of
the dead upon his inheritance. Law, will you take this sinner
unto yourself? You know that every person on
this earth is a sinner. Did you know that? Every single
one of us. I don't care how nice the clothes
are. Every one of us. And every single one of us wants
to go to heaven. Even the ones who arrogantly
say they don't. They do. They're lying. So, what do I need to do to get
into heaven? Well, you have to obey the law.
Right? You have to do good. You have
to not murder anybody. You can't drink, and you can't
cuss, and you can't do things like that. That's not exactly true. That's
not true. A sinner is coming up to the
gate. Law, are you going to redeem
that sinner? Are you going to let the sinner
in? Are you going to buy the property of this sinner? Is this
sinner going to live here under your roof? Are you going to claim the sinner,
protect the sinner, restore the sinner? Look at verse 6. And
the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself. I wish that the
entire world could hear that line. And I don't just mean hear
it, I mean hear it. Hear it. Hear it. The law. You know what the law is? Those
Ten Commandments? There are thousands and thousands
and thousands of laws in this book, aside from our Lord's precious
Ten Commandments, that we could never keep. Never keep. If you've broken one, you've
broken them all. So the law says, I cannot redeem
her. I cannot. Turn with me over to Romans 8.
If a person wants to learn something about salvation and eternal life,
look at Romans 8. Romans 8 Verse 3 says, For what
the law could not do. What the law could not do. In
that it was weak through the flesh. The flesh. My flesh. Ruth's flesh. The law couldn't deal with this
flesh. If this flesh has sinned against
God, and is there any doubt in anybody's mind that we've all
sinned against God? Does anybody believe in their
heart of never sinned against God? If they do, they're lying,
and that's a sin. If they do, they're proud, and
that's a sin. Okay? Now, if one sin has been
committed, you cannot come in. I don't care what you do after
that. I don't care how good you are. I don't care if you give
every dime that's in your account. I don't care if you live the
rest of your life on your knees praying. You can't come in. It's the law. If you've broken
it once, you cannot come in. You cannot come in. Sorry. Did
you break the law? Yes, I did. Then you can't come
in. Depart from me, ye that work iniquity, I never knew you. What
the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh. What the law could not deal with
in this flesh. Because the law couldn't deal
with this flesh, God became flesh. You know that? You know why Jesus
Christ came to the earth? Do you know that Jesus Christ
is the word? He was in the beginning that
is no beginning. Forever, forever, forever, forever,
and ever. And it's the first fraction of
a second of eternity. He is the ancient of days. Do
you know why in time he came to this earth? The law couldn't
deal with his flesh. So God became flesh. Couldn't do it. Verse three says,
for what the law could not do in that it was weak through the
flesh, God sending his own son in the likeness of sinful flesh
and for sin, the margin says, by a sacrifice for sin. That sacrifice where he cried,
it is finished. He condemned sin in the flesh. Glory to God in the highest Hosanna
to our King go with me over to Galatians 3 Galatians 3 verse 11 says But
that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is
evident. Read God's word long enough and
we will see. That no man is justified by the
law in the sight of God, it's evident. For the just shall live
by faith. Faith in what? Faith is believing.
Believing what? That the Lord Jesus Christ paid
it all. All the debt I owe for my sins.
Verse 12 says, and the law is not of faith, but the man that
doeth them shall live in them. You gotta obey it perfectly to
live. Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being
made a curse for us. For it is written, cursed is
everyone that hangeth on a tree. that the blessing of Abraham
might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ, that we might receive
the promise of the Spirit through faith. No man is justified by
the law in the sight of God. You can't do right and go to
heaven in the sight of God. Nothing is right. The scripture
says all of our righteousnesses are filthy rags. Nothing's right. Nothing. What the law could not
do, God sent his son to do. Now go with me back over to Ruth
chapter four. Ruth 4 verse 5 says, Then said
Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou
must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead,
to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance. And the
kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar my
own inheritance. Redeem thou my right to thyself,
for I cannot redeem it. Now this was the manner in former
time in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning changing. For
to confirm all things, a man plucked off his shoe and gave
it to his neighbor. And this was a testimony in Israel.
Therefore, the kinsman said unto Boaz, buy it for thee. So he
drew off his shoe. That is Romans eight, verse three,
right there. That's what we just read. He
drew off his shoe. Can you picture a man taking
his shoe off and handing it to somebody else? He's not going
to stand on one leg forever. Right? God touched this earth. He touched this earth. God humbled
himself and came down. God removed the partition. that separated him from the dust
of the ground. That's what he did. He drew off
his shoe and he came down. He placed his own flesh in the
gravel. He bruised his own heel. We say
Satan bruised his heel according to the will and purpose of God
Almighty. He bruised his own heel. He took his own shoe off. And he fulfilled all that God
required. That's what he did. Do you know
why you and I can't get into heaven? It's because we could
never fulfill what God requires. So Christ became flesh because
the law couldn't do it. And he did it. He fulfilled all
that God requires every single thing for his bride. He did it
for his bride. Go with me over to Exodus chapter
three. Verse two, Exodus three, verse
two. And the angel of the Lord appeared unto Moses in a flame
of fire out of the midst of a bush. And he looked and behold, the
bush burned with fire and the bush was not consumed. And Moses
said, I will now turn aside and see this great sight while the
bush is not burnt. And when the Lord saw that he
turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of
the bush and said, Moses, Moses, and he said, here am I. And he
said, draw not nigh hither, put off thy shoes from off thy feet
for the place where on thou standest is holy ground. Holy ground. Moses represents the law. You
know that the law came by Moses law. You take your shoes off. You're standing on holy ground.
You're in the presence of God. God's law is holy. It is holy,
it is right, it is pure. But even the law is not pure
in the sight of God. Even the law can't stand in the
sight of God. He said the stars are not pure
in His sight. And God said my commandment is
you take your shoes off. That's my commandment. So the
law told Christ. This near kinsman told Boaz,
here's the law. Take your shoe off. And he did. You know, that's the goodness
of the gospel. He did. He did. He was willing. He did. Everything God required, Christ
fulfilled. You know what I have to do to
be saved? Nothing. Nothing. Just believe that Christ
did it all. That's it. That's it. He humbled
himself. He took upon him the form of
a servant, even though he was equal with God. Back over in
Ruth chapter four, verse eight says, Therefore,
the kinsman said unto Boaz, buy it for thee. So he drew off his
shoe and Boaz said unto the elders and unto all the people, you
are witnesses this day that I have bought all that was Elimelech,
God of the King. I bought it all. And all that was Kylian's perished,
dead, consumed, I bought them. And Mylons, sick, afflicted,
I bought them of the hand of grace. I did it
all by the hand of grace. Grace went and got them, grace
brought them, and I bought them. Verse 10 says, Moreover, Ruth
the Moabitess, The wife of sickness and affliction. That's what Mahlon
means. Sickness and affliction. Have
I purchased, we sing that song, sing, oh, sing of my redeemer
with his blood. He purchased me. He bought me. I belong to him. He said, moreover,
Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to
be my wife, not my servant. not my slave, my wife, my wife. To raise up the name of the dead
upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off
from among his brethren and from the gate of his place, ye are
witnesses this day. And all the people that were
in the gate and the elders said, We are witnesses. The Lord make
the woman that is come into thine house, like Rachel and like Leah,
which too did build the house of Israel, and do thou worthily
in Ephrathah and be famous. That means proclaim thy name
in Bethlehem. House of bread. Verse 12 says,
And let thy house be like the house of Phares, whom Tamar bear
unto Judah of the seed, which the Lord shall give thee of this
young woman. What was the house of Phares
like? We are about to find out. Look at verse 13. So Boaz took
Ruth and she was his wife. And when he went in under her,
the Lord gave her conception and she bear a son. And the women
said unto Naomi, Blessed be the Lord, which hath not left thee
this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel. And he shall be unto thee a restorer
of thy life and a nourisher of thine old age for thy daughter-in-law,
which loveth thee. That sinner loves you. We do,
don't we? Do we not love grace? Don't we
love grace? The grace of God, the gift of
God, For God so loved the world, he gave a gift, his own son. Verse 15 says, he shall be unto
thee a restorer of thy life and a nourisher of thine old age
for thy daughter-in-law, which loveth thee, which is better
to thee than seven sons hath born him. And Naomi took the
child and laid it in her bosom and became nurse unto it. And
the women, her neighbors gave it a name saying, there's a son
born to Naomi. A son of grace. And they called his name Obed.
His name means a servant. You know, a son of grace. Is
a servant of grace. A servant of grace, David said,
and I say with him, I just wish I could be a doorkeeper. You
know what a blessing that would be? Welcome in. Yes, there's a place reserved
for you. A servant of grace. Verse 17 says, his name is Obed,
he is the father of Jesse. His name means to exist. To forever
exist. A son of grace is a son of eternal
life. Eternal life in Christ. Union
with Christ is eternal life. People want eternal life. That's
Christ. If I want eternal life, that
means I want Christ. I want Jesus Christ. I want to
be a son of grace. Verse 17 says he's the father
of Jesse, the father of David. His name means love. A son of
grace is a son of love, a recipient of love. Verse 18 says, now these
are the generations of Ferris. This is the house of Ferris. Ferez begat Hezron. Hezron begat
Ram. Ram begat Amenadab. And Amenadab
begat Nashan. Nashan begat Salmon. Salmon begat
Boaz. Boaz begat Obed. Obed begat Jesse. And Jesse begat David. Now each
of these men and their wives and their children, they all
have a story. They are all sinners. Every one of them. Every single
one of them. And we could look at all their
stories, but we're just going to look
at my favorite one. We're just going to look at the
one that pertains to this book. I just want to show you one thing
about it. This book is about Boaz. They titled it Ruth. But it's about Boaz. It's all about Boaz. This thing
of religion and this thing of salvation is not about the sinner. It's about the Savior. It's about
the Redeemer. The glory goes to the Redeemer,
Boaz. Verse 21 says, And Salmon begat
Boaz. That's Boaz's dad. Do you know
who Salmon's wife was? Do you know who Salmon's wife
was? Boaz's mother? It was Rahab the harlot. Matthew 1, the genealogy. Rahab the harlot. Every time
I hear that precious woman's name, my heart skips a beat.
I love her. I'm looking forward to seeing
my Lord. I'm looking forward to meeting Solomon. I'm looking
forward to meeting Rahab. Every time I hear that precious
woman's name, I think maybe God will have mercy on me. Every
time I hear her name, I think Christ really did come to save
sinners. And I'll tell you why. I am a
sinner. My name is Gabe Stoniker, and
I'm a sinner. But I have some wonderful news.
Christ didn't come to call the righteous. He came to save sinners. The house of fair is, if we look
at every story you will see, it is a house of grace. It's
a house of grace. It is full of grace. God allowed
a harlot to be the great, great grandmother of King David. King
David is going to come through your line. God allowed a harlot
to be in the earthly line of Christ himself, the son of David. You want to see his heritage?
Look at Rahab the harlot. The grace of God towards sinners
is so great. It is so great. This is Ruth's
story. This is our story. It's all of
grace. You know that? If we leave this
story with one thing, it's this. It's all of grace. What must
I do? It's already done. It's all of
grace. We are right now going to sing
marvelous, infinite, matchless grace. grace, the grace of God,
His name is Jesus Christ. Alright, let's stand together.
