Isaiah

The sermon titled "The Gospel of Isaiah" by Paul Mahan centers on the centrality of Jesus Christ in the book of Isaiah, illustrating the significance of this prophetic text in God's redemptive plan. Mahan emphasizes that Isaiah serves as a comprehensive declaration of Christ, presenting Him as the expected Messiah throughout the entire book, specifically referencing Isaiah 1:2-4, 1:16-18, and 53:5. The preacher articulates that Isaiah's visions encompass both God's judgment on sin and His promise of cleansing through the coming Savior, underscoring the combination of divine wrath and mercy. Key themes include the incarnation, the substitutionary atonement of Jesus, and His role in fulfilling the law, thus highlighting the Reformed doctrine of total depravity, Christ's propitiatory work, and the doctrine of salvation by grace through faith. The practical significance of this message is firmly rooted in the assurance that Christ's redemptive work is the basis for believers' acceptance before God, encouraging them to trust in Him as their only hope.

Key Quotes

“A brotherhood. Someone's coming. That's what this whole book is all about.”

“He is God. He hath declared Him...May our little place move. The house filled with smoke.”

“Let all your salvation hang on Jesus Christ. He's a nail in a sure place.”

“This is a message for heaven and earth. I've nourished children and rebelled against them.”

What does the Bible say about the Gospel of Isaiah?

The Gospel of Isaiah reveals God's redemptive plan through prophecies about Christ, emphasizing His coming as Savior.

The Gospel of Isaiah is a profound declaration of God's intention to save His people through His Son, Jesus Christ. In Isaiah 61, we see the Spirit of the Lord anointed upon Him to preach good tidings and to heal the brokenhearted. Throughout the book, Isaiah speaks of the coming Messiah, highlighting themes such as sin, cleansing, and hope. In Isaiah 53, for instance, we learn of the suffering servant who bears our iniquities and by whose stripes we are healed. This overarching narrative underscores that the entire Old Testament points to Jesus as the fulfillment of God's promise of salvation.

Isaiah 61, Isaiah 53

How do we know Jesus is the fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecies?

Jesus fulfills Isaiah's prophecies, affirmed by His life, death, and resurrection, as attested in the New Testament.

The fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecies in Jesus is evidenced throughout the New Testament, where His life aligns perfectly with the Scriptures. For example, Isaiah 7:14 foretells the virgin birth of Christ, and Matthew 1:23 confirms this with the announcement of His birth. Furthermore, Jesus' ministry, crucifixion, and resurrection fulfill Isaiah's declarations of the suffering servant in Isaiah 53. Additionally, He Himself references Isaiah's words when He begins His ministry (Luke 4:18-19), claiming that He is indeed the one whom Isaiah spoke of. This continuity between the Old and New Testament assures us of the truth of these doctrines.

Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, Isaiah 53, Luke 4:18-19

Why is understanding Isaiah's Gospel important for Christians?

Understanding Isaiah's Gospel enriches Christians’ faith by deepening their awareness of God's redemptive plan through Christ.

Grasping the Gospel of Isaiah is crucial for Christians as it provides a foundational understanding of God's sovereign grace and His plan for redemption. The prophetic nature of Isaiah’s writings illustrates God’s foreknowledge and provides assurance that Christ's coming was not an afterthought but a deliberate orchestration. Understanding these prophecies enhances our appreciation of who Jesus is as our Savior and the profound implications of His sacrifice. It also helps believers realize the continuity of Scripture and encourages them to trust in God’s promises throughout history, reaffirming the hope we have in Christ's return and the fullness of His kingdom.

The book of Isaiah. Isaiah, as
you know, our Lord preached on that road to Emmaus to his disciples. And when he came to the book
of Isaiah, where did he preach from? Well, when he came to his
town of Nazareth, he turned to Isaiah 61, the Spirit of the
Lord is upon me. He anointed me to preach the
gospel to the poor, and so on. And you know he probably dealt
with that. You know he dealt with Isaiah
53, the substitute. He could have preached from anywhere
in the book of Isaiah. This is the Gospel of Isaiah,
chapters 1 through 66. Interestingly, 66 chapters where
there are 66 books in the Bible. This is a Bible in itself. All the prophets wrote of Christ,
but none more so than Isaiah. The longest of the prophets and
the fullest. This is the fullest declaration
of Christ. He's quoted by more than any
other prophet in the New Testament. Look at chapter 1. I hope you'll
follow along. We've got lots of scripture to
read. It begins with sinful man. Sad state of man. And it talks
of cleansing from sin. Verse 2, this is a message for
heaven and earth. I've nourished children and rebelled
against them. Verse 4, sinful nation, people
laden with iniquity, corrupters, evildoers. Provoke the Lord.
Provoke the Lord and God is angry. But God is merciful. Verse 16
says, wash ye. Make you clean. How? There is
a fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel's veins. God, come now, he says in verse
18, let's reason together. Though your sins be as scarlet,
they'll be white as snow, red like crimson, they'll be like
water. How? How? Well, somebody's coming.
That's what this whole book is all about. That's what the whole
Old Testament's all about. A brotherhood. Someone's coming.
Put away sin. Chapter 6. Where was he before
he came? Chapter 6. High and lifted up
on his throne. Isaiah said, I saw the Lord.
Chapter 6. High and lifted up. His train
filled the temple. Who did he see? No man has seen
God at any time. the only begotten Son, which
is in the bosom of the Father. He is God. He hath declared Him. Isaiah saw the Lord Jesus cry,
and the angels cried, Holy, holy, holy. The post of the door moved
at His voice. May our little place move. The house filled with smoke.
The whole earth is full of His glory. That's the Lord Jesus Christ.
Isaiah said, Woe is me. I'm undone. And everybody around
me is undone. And then God told him, the Lord
told him, verse 9, Go and tell this people. Go tell them who
you've seen. Tell them the message. He said,
But they won't hear. They have ears. They won't hear. They won't believe
though a man told them. How are they going to believe?
The miracle of God's grace. Well, who's coming? Verse chapter
7, verse 14. The Lord himself will give you
a sign. Behold, a virgin shall conceive. The woman's seed is
coming. Son of man, yes, but God manifest
in the flesh. Emmanuel. That's who's coming. God is coming. Chapter 9. Chapter 9. The wonderful one
is coming. The wonderful one. Verse 6, a
child is born. It's a baby in Bethlehem. House of bread. He was formed
and came forth in the house of bread. Remember that. That's
the next message. A son is given, the eternal son
who is with the Father from the beginning. The government, the
rule, the reign of all is upon His shoulders. His name? He has thousands of names, but
His name is wonderful. Counselor of the mighty God,
the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace, and the increase of
His government, His peace, no end. No end. So that's who's coming. Chapter 11, the rod, the branch,
the root. And our people, the people's
arrest is coming. Verse one, chapter 11, shall
come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, a branch that is David's
son, yet David's Lord. The branch in his family, and
yet no, David's in his family. He's David's father, David's
son, David's father. How can this be? Well, it's a
mystery. But we know, don't we? We know.
And look at verse 2. The Spirit of the Lord shall
rest upon him. Spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel, might,
knowledge, fear of the Lord. Fear. Verse 10. In that day there
shall be a root of Jesse, an ensign of the people, the sign
And the Gentiles will seek him and his rest. So he's the rod. He's the branch. He's the rod
like Moses' rod, like Aaron's rod. He's the branch, son of
David. He's the root out of dry ground.
And he's our rest, isn't he? And he's glorious. He's glorious. Who's coming? You may have never
seen this before. Chapter 16. Who's coming? After he speaks of Moab, a burden
from Moab, a heathen place, chapter 14, how Lucifer has come down
to earth. Woe is unto the inhabitants of
the earth because he's down here. Burden of Moab, chapter 15. Verse
16, the Lord says, Send the Lamb. Send the Lamb to the ruler of
the land from Selah. Selah. Rock. The rock. To the wilderness where people
dwell. To the mount of the daughter of Zion. Go tell Zion, the Lion
of the tribe of Judah is coming, the Lamb of God, to take away
the sins of the world. So this is Christ. Chapter 19.
Chapter 19. He's the altar, he's the pillar,
he's the sign, he's the witness. Chapter 19, verse 19. In that day shall there be an
altar of the Lord in the midst of the land of Egypt. We have
an altar, don't we? We have an altar. And it's not down here. It's up there. Christ is our
altar. In the midst of the land of Egypt,
a pillar A pillar that holds it all up. That's Christ, isn't it? A pillar.
Verse 20. And it shall be for a sign. A
sign. Oh my. No sign will be given,
our Lord said, but the sign of the prophet Jonah. Christ crucified. The Lord of hosts and the Lamb.
And verse 20 says, He shall send them a Savior and a Great One. The Savior, the Great One. And He shall deliver them. Are you with me? It can't really
get more glorious than it does. Just keep building, building. This is the Savior. This is the
Great One. Our altar. Verse 23, there'll
be a highway out of Egypt. Are you reading this? Why didn't
you shout? There's a highway out. There's
a way out of this place, out of the slime pits. His name is
Jesus Christ. He said, I'm the way. I come
to bring you out of this pit to keep you from going back in
it. We're kept by the power of God. That's right. He's the way.
He's the truth. Well, the Savior, the Great One,
the highway, He's a nail. In a sure place. Chapter 22.
Chapter 22. Verse 22. You can remember that. Maybe this will be tomorrow's
memory verse. 22, 22. The key of the house
of David I lay upon his shoulder. He shall open and none shall
shut. He shall shut and nobody will open. Are you shut up to
faith in Christ? He's the one to shut you in.
Have you come to Christ through the door? He's the one who brought
you in. And he says, I'll fasten him, verse 23, like a nail in
a sure place. He shall be for a glorious throne
to His Father's house. They'll hang on Him. They'll
hang it all on Him. Let all your salvation hang on
Jesus Christ. He's a nail in a sure place. Who is this? The nail? Who is this nail? Chapter 25.
This is God. This is God manifest in flesh. Emmanuel, as chapter 7 said,
as chapter 9 said, God, verse chapter 25, it says in verse
6, in this mountain, Mount Zion, Mount Calvary, the Lord of hosts
will make a feast of the fat thing himself. Wines on the leaves,
his blood. Fat things, full of marrow. Wine
on the leaves, well refined. He will destroy in this mountain
the face of the country. cast over all the people, the
veil that's spread over all the nation. He'll swallow up death
and victory. The Lord God, who is this? The Lord God will wipe away tears
from all faces. rebuke of his people shall he
take away from off all the earth. For the Lord has spoken, and
it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God. We have waited for him. He will
save us. We have waited for him. We will
be glad and rejoice in his salvation. Who is this? It's our God. Our
God has come. Isaiah said He's coming. The
gospels say He has. The epistles say He's coming
again. Who? Our God and our Savior. And boy
will we be glad and rejoice with joy unspeakable when He takes
us out of Egypt and be forever in His holy mountain with the
Lord. So shall we ever be with the Lord. Chapter 26. Chapter
26. This is Jehovah. This is who
this is. This is our peace. Jehovah, our
peace. Chapter 26. The gate, the truth,
the rock, our peace. Chapter 26, verse 2. Open the
gates. Christ said straight is the gate,
narrow is the way that leadeth unto light. What's that? It's
Him. It's Him. The nation would keepeth the
truth, that is, believeth on Him, may enter in. Thou wilt,
verse 3, keep them in perfect peace, whose mind is made on
Him. Who? The Lord Jehovah, the Rock
of Ages. Who is that? Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ. And He's our peace. He's our rock. Oh, look at verse
12. I'm hurrying, but my, my. We could dwell anywhere. Verse
12. The Lord, thou wilt, Lord, name
peace for us. Thou also hast wrought all our
works in us for us. That's the Lord Jesus Christ. Who's coming? The chief cornerstone,
chapter 28. The chief cornerstone, chapter
28, verse 16. Therefore, thus saith the Lord
God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation, a stone, a tried
stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation. He that believeth
shall not make haste. That is, you're not going anywhere.
You're going to rest. You're going to be grounded and
settled on Christ the solid rock. He's the chief cornerstone upon
which God built His church. Let me just stop just a second
then. Someone came by the study yesterday, came by the church,
and everyone in here knows him. He wanted to take a picture of
that stone on the outside of the building, because his father
is the one that started this. He wanted to take a picture.
He said, I want to take a picture of that cornerstone. Now, I've
been wanting to take that out of the wall for years, because
no man found it, this church or any church. I've been wanting
to take that out, want to cover it up. Christ is the chief cornerstone.
The Lord Jesus Christ, and He'll never be moved. I'm going to
take that out. Maybe I'll mail it to the man. Christ is our chief cornerstone.
If you're built on Him, you'll never be moved. You know that?
You'll never be moved. And you'll not glory in anyone
or anything but on whom you rest, on whom you believe. Right? You put no confidence, no stop,
not interested in any person, place, or thing but Jesus Christ.
Chief cornerstone. Who is it? He's the book. Christ
is the book. Chapter 29. Chapter 29. He's
the holy one. He's the healer. He's the book. Chapter 29, verse 18. 29, verse 18. In that day shall
the deaf hear the words of the book. Wait a minute. A book can't speak. He did. His name is called the Word.
The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us. He said, My sheep hear
my voice. The deaf are going to hear my
voice. The Word of God. The eyes of
the blind shall see out of obscurity and out of darkness. Verse 19,
The meek shall increase their joy in the Lord. The poor among
men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. This is the Holy
One. This is the book. This is the
healer. The terrible one is about to know. Chapter 32. Who is this? The king. He's the hiding place.
He's the covert. He's the rock. Chapter 32, verse
1. Behold, a king shall reign in
righteousness. A man, verse 2, shall be a hiding
place. A covert from the tempest. Ask
the disciples, how did you get through that tempest? How did
you get through that storm? A man calmed it. A man got in the ship with us.
And as soon as he did, we were calm. Calm. That story tells that when Christ
got the ships, immediately they were on land. Peace had come. When you meet Christ, immediately
you're going to be on solid ground. Immediately you're going to have
peace. If you ever see Him, you're going to have peace. That's Christ, our King, our
hiding place, our cohort, our rock. Who is this? We've already
said it. Chapter 35. Chapter 35, he's
the highway. Verse 8. Oh my, I want to read the first
three verses. Verse 4, look at verse 4. Say to them of a fearful
heart, be strong, fear not, your God will come with vengeance.
Even God with a recompense. He'll come and save you. And
there's a highway, verse 8, out of this place. A way, and he
called it the way of holiness. And that's Christ. The highway
out. And verse 10, the ransom of the
Lord shall return. Deliver them from going down
into the pit. I've found the ransom. He's crying. Come to
Zion with songs of everlasting joy upon their heads and shall
obtain joy and gladness. Sorrow and sighs shall flee away. Because you're in Christ. Be
well. Look at chapter 40. Who's coming? The glorious Lord and your Shepherd.
Chapter 40, verse 3. This is the voice of Him that
crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord. Make
straight the desert a highway for who? Our God. Our God, they said, will come
and save us. Verse 5, it says that the glory
of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see Him together,
for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken. This is the glorious
Lord. Verse 10. He's the shepherd.
The Lord God will come with strong hand. His arm shall rule for
him. His reward is with him. His work
before him. He shall feed his flock like
a shepherd. He shall gather the lambs with
his arm, carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are
with him. Yes, this is He who created it
all, measured it all in the power of His hand. Meet it out here. That's the Lord, the glorious
Lord, our glorious Shepherd, who shall not want. Chapter 42,
who's coming? God's servant, God's elect. Chapter
42, verse 1, Behold my servant, whom I uphold, mine elect, and
whom my soul delighted, I put my spirit upon him. He shall
bring forth judgment to the Gentile. Oh, my. Verse 4, He shall not
fail nor be discouraged till he hath set judgment in the earth. And everybody and everything
is going to wait on His Word. That's who's coming. God's servant.
God's elect. Do God's work for Him. God's
righteousness. Chapter 45. Who's coming? Chapter
45. Are you with me? Verse 21, Tell
them, bring them near. Let them take counsel together.
Who hath declared this from ancient time? Who hath told it from that
time? Have not I the Lord? There is
no God else beside me, a just God and a Savior. There is none
beside me. Look unto me. Be ye saved, all
the ends of the earth. I am God. There is none else.
Who? Christ said He was God. Who is
God? Father and Son. Yes. He's seen
Him, you've seen the Father. He's sworn, verse 23, words gone
out of my mouth in righteousness, shall not return. Unto me shall
every knee bow. Who? God said, He's given Christ
a name above every name, that every knee should bow. And every
tongue confess. Confess what? Verse 24, that
He's Lord. Surely shall one say, in the
Lord have I righteousness. There's one right there. His
name is John. He's seen His glory. He's heard
His voice. He's seen Him. He's declared
His righteousness, hasn't He? I have too, have you? That's
who's come, given us an understanding. We might know Him, this truth.
Verse 25, in the Lord. We're in Him, this truth. In
the Lord Jesus Christ shall all the seed of Israel be justified. And what? Glory. God forbid that I should glory,
saving the cross of my Lord Jesus Christ. He's the glory of God. He's the righteousness of God.
He's the covenant head. Chapter 49. Chapter 49. If you can't follow along, go
back and listen later, okay? Chapter 49. He's the psalm. He's the substance. He's the
book. Every line, every jot, every tittle, chapter 49, verse
7. Thus saith the Lord, the Redeemer
of Israel, His Holy One, Him whom man despised. Kings will
see and come and worship because of the Lord, His faith, the Holy
One of Israel. Verse 8. In acceptable time have
I heard thee, a day of salvation have I helped thee. I will preserve
thee and give thee for a covenant of the people. Verse 9, He will
go forth and say to the prisoners, those who are in darkness, He's
going to bring them out. Verse 10, they'll not hunger
anymore or thirst anymore. The sun won't smite them. The
Lord hath mercy, He'll lead them. That's the Lord. The Lord Jesus
Christ. Covenant Head. Chapter 50. Who is this? He's the Creator
who was crucified. He's God, our Creator, and yet
crucified. Chapter 50, verse 2, verse 3,
I clothe the heavens with blackness. I make sackcloth their covering.
The Lord hath given me the tongue of the learned. I know how to
speak. He waketh morning by morning. He waketh my ear to hear as a
learned. Verse 5, The Lord hath opened my ear, I was not rebellious,
neither turned away back. I gave my back to the smiters. God gave him a body, gave him
a back. He gave him a body to be broken,
gave him a back to be beaten. Why? This is our substitute.
By his stripes, real. His cheeks to them that plucked
off the hair. Those cheeks that are beds of
spices. I hid not my face from shame
and spit. Why? Because we should have been,
the Father should have spit in our face. But he had men do it
to Christ instead. Oh, this is the Creator who was
crucified. Verse 10, Who is among you that
feareth the Lord, that obeyeth the voice of the Lord, that walketh
in darkness, and hath no life? Trust in the Lord. They trust
in the Lord. They stay upon His God. That's Christ, the crucified
Creator. He's the Lord, our righteousness.
Chapter 51, verse 4, Hearken unto Me. 51.4 My people, give
ear unto Me. O my nation, the law hath proceeded
from me. I'll make my judgment to rest
for the light of the people. My righteousness is near. My
salvation's gone forth. Mine arms shall judge the people.
Verse 7, hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the
people in whose heart is my law. Don't fear me, and fear me. I
am your righteousness. I am he, verse 12, that comforteth
you. Don't be afraid of man. He's the Lord. Verse 13, Our
Maker, the Lord Jesus Christ, our righteous. Chapter 53, Isaiah
53. Who hath believed this? Who hath
believed all this? I do. To whom is the arm of the
Lord revealed? Me? You? Huh? Oh, He's despised men, rejected
men. Verse 4, But He hath borne our
griefs. He grieved over sin. A man of
sorrow is acquainted with grief, and borne our griefs, and our
sorrows. He's sorrow over sin. You mourn over your sin. Christ
bore your sin and your sorrow. Verse 5, He was wounded for our
transgression, bruised for our iniquity, the whipping The chastisement
we should have received was laid upon Him. With His stripes we
are healed. Oh, we've all like sheep gone astray. We've turned
everyone to His own way, but the Lord laid on Him the iniquity
of us all. That's the Lord our substitute.
Who is it? He's our husband, chapter 54.
Right after 53, it says, sing. Start singing. It's going to end with us singing
in glory. It started out in sin. It's going
to end in glory. Chapter 66 ends in glory, a new
heaven and a new earth. Chapter 54, sing now. Sing. Cry aloud. It says in verse 5,
Your maker is your husband. The Lord of hosts, thy Redeemer,
the Holy One of Israel, the God of the whole earth, shall He
be called. You're a woman forsaken, but not by Him. He came for you. The husband Redeemer. Who's that? Who's that sound like in the
Bible? Husband Redeemer. Boaz. Hmm. He's come to marry you. Oh, but I'm ugly. You're black,
are you? That's who he came for. That's who he came for. Forlorn? Oh, that's exactly his bride. Forsaken? Hmm. That's why he
came. He'll never be forsaken. by Him. All right, this is the leader,
the commander, chapter 55. The leader, the commander, verse
4. I've given Him for a witness
to the people, a faithful witness, a leader and a commander. He'll
call a nation. Thou knowest not. Nations that
do not, they shall run to Him. The Lord thy God, the Holy One
of Israel, He hath glorified thee. Verse 10, chapter 55, verse
10. As the rain that cometh down,
that's Christ, He's the rain. He's the rain. He shall come
down like rain on the mown grass, in a dry and thirsty land. Are
you thirsty? Has the rain fallen on you? There shall be showers of blessing. Christ has come down. Verse 11,
He's the Word that came down. He will not return void. He'll
accomplish. He's the Word that accomplished
exactly what God sent Him to do. He said it was my meat and
His drink to do the Father's will and to finish the work He
came to do. He did. He won't return void.
He accomplished it. He went back to glory. He sat
down. So this is the leader, the commander. This is the reign.
This is the Word. Still with me? Chapter 59. We're going to make it. And you're
going to make it if you believe this Lord, if you know this Lord,
if you rejoice in this Lord. If this is glorious to you, if
He's glorious, you're going to make it. Chapter 59, verse 16. This is God's only man. He saw,
verse 16, there was no man. Chapter 59, 16. He saw there
was no man, no intercessor, so his arm brought salvation. His
righteousness is saved. He put on righteousness as a
breastplate, a helmet of salvation on his head, a garment of vengeance.
He came. Verse 19. They will fear him
as long as the sun. The enemy shall come in like
a flood, but the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard
against him. That's Christ crucified. The
Redeemer, verse 20, 20. The Redeemer shall come to Zion,
and them that turn from transgression in Jacob. Verse 21. This is my covenant with them.
What's that? Christ. Do you believe on Him? That God's made a covenant concerning
you? The sure mercies of David are
concerning you. Is that you? Do you know why
you're here? For Christ's sake, do you know
that? Then you're going to be here forever, sitting at His
table. He promised. That's who He reveals it to.
He's the only man. For Christ's sake. Chapter 60. He's the light. Arise, shine.
Light hath come. Glory of the Lord is risen upon
thee. The darkness covers the earth. Gross darkness. But the
Lord shall arise upon thee. His glory shall be seen upon
thee. Who, me? Yes, thee. Have you
seen His glory? You know how many people are
still in darkness? The darkness of this world, the
darkness of religion, if the light that is in them be darkness,
how great is the darkness. You see light, don't you? Somebody
tell me in one word what is light. Christ. Everybody tell me. Christ. Where'd you get that? He said, I'm the light. He that
believeth on me shall never walk in darkness. Well, the light
is shown on you. It's shown on you. He's the Christ,
chapter 61. The Spirit of the Lord, the anointed
one, sent to preach good tidings, preach the gospel, mind up the
broken heart. 61.1, mind up the broken heart.
Proclaim liberty to the captives. the opening of the prison to
them that are bound, to proclaim the Lord's accepting people.
The holy God of Israel is accepting sinners. How? Isn't that beloved? Do you know that? Do you know
that your acceptance with God, that God accepts you and God
will have you in His kingdom, in His heaven someday because
of Christ? Do you know that? Only because
of Christ. Do you know that? Oh, my. You're accepted. Acceptable, you're the Lord.
He's the Mighty One. Chapter 63. He's the Mighty One. Who is it? That come from Edom
with dyed garments, glorious in His apparel, traveling in
the greatness of His strength? Who is it? I that speak in righteousness. Mighty to save. Why are you red
in your apparel? I've walked. I've trodden the
winepress alone. Do you know why God is not going
to charge you with sin someday? Do you know why God accepts you
and why God justifies you and why God sees you as righteous? Do you know why God will have
you, a sinner that you are, in His holy presence someday without
sin? Do you know why? A lot of people
sing it, but God's people know it. The Lord Jesus paid it all. All the debt I owe. Sin had left
a crimson stain. Where does it start? Chapter
1. Though your sins be as scarlet, but He washed it white as snow. in His own precious blood. Oh,
He's the Mighty One to save. He's the Redeemer. He's the potter.
Chapter 64. Chapter 64, verse 8. Do you know that Jesus Christ
is the potter? God our Father and the potter.
Oh Lord, Thou art our Father. We are the clay. Thou art our
potter. In all the work of Thy hand. We're the work of His hand. We're
the work of Christ's hand. Oh, we're, by grace you say,
through faith, that's not of yourself, it's a gift of God.
Not of workless any man should boast for his, we're his workmanship. Whose workmanship? Jesus Christ,
the potter, a vessel of mercy. Born again by the Word, by Christ's
travail in birth. And He's the fire and He's the
sword. Chapter 65, verse 16. Look at
this. He's the truth. Chapter 65, 16. Those who bless themselves in
the earth shall bless themselves in the God of truth. Truth. Who's that? Christ said,
I'm the truth. Didn't He? He that sweareth in
the earth shall swear by the God of truth. But why? Because
the former troubles are forgotten, are hid from God's eyes. What's
that? You. You, you're your biggest
trouble. And you're dead and your life
is hid with God in Christ. I always get that confused. Your life is hid with Christ
in God or God in Christ. Which is it? Both. Say it either way, it's true.
Hid. Troubles we have are hidden in
Christ. He's the God of truth and He's
the fire and He's the sword. Chapter 66. Chapter 66, verse
15. Behold, the Lord will come with
fire. He'll come with fire. Verse 16. By fire and by sword
He'll plead with all flesh. The slain of the Lord shall be
many. Have you seen the fire? Have you been roasted in the
fire? It is the fire of Calvary. The
sword, the sword of His Spirit, as it pierced you and your hearts,
it did Christ in. And all whom Christ operates
on, the sword, wounds and heals, the fire burns and yet it comforts.
And then it ends, it began this way, a message to heaven and
earth. Chapter 1 began, O heavens give
ear, O earth, the Lord has spoken, I have nourished, brought up
rebellious people, a sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity,
a seed of evildoers. What are we going to do? Stand
still. Seed of salvation. Seed. Here,
O heaven and earth, verse 22, as the new heavens and the new
earth, which I shall make, I will make, shall remain before me.
Sayeth the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain. Whose seed? Christ and his people. Read on. It shall come to pass
from one new moon to another, one Sabbath to another. All flesh
gonna come and worship before me. Sayeth the Lord. That's the gospel of Isaiah. Christ is the gospel. Okay. May the Lord bless you.
